The gastrointestinal absorption of Zn in broiler chickens was notably low. One approach that has been explored for enhancing the bioavailability of Zn is the development of Zn nanoparticles (NPs).

Timing of relapse as a key indicator of steroid-sparing requirements in childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.

Background: Managing children with frequent relapses or steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome poses challenges due to recurrent relapses necessitating prolonged steroid exposure, thus increasing susceptibility to long-term complications. Identifying those at risk of poor response to steroid therapy may be helpful to guide timely intervention with steroid-sparing agents. It also aims to identify the specific aspects of HRQoL most impacted by PIH during pregnancy and determine the existence of effective interventions to enhance the HRQoL of these pregnant women. Objectives Compared with the first stroke, neurological impairment caused by stroke recurrence is more serious, more difficult to treat, and has a higher mortality rate, especially among ischemic stroke (IS) patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Although there are established correlations between factors and IS recurrence, there were some issues regarding the naive hazard of IS recurrence with no risk factor influence, and how does the baseline hazard differ among patients with DM and non-DM? To answer all these questions, two time-to-event (TTE) models of recurrent IS after the index IS were developed among IS patients with DM and non-DM. Method A total of 7697 patients with an index IS attack were extracted from the Malaysian Registry of Neurology and stratified according to DM status.

Background: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a significant impact on all walks of life, in particular, environmental services workers in healthcare settings had higher workload, increased stress and greater susceptibility to COVID-19 infections during the pandemic. Despite extensive literature describing the impact of the pandemic on healthcare workers such as doctors and nurses, studies on the lived experiences of environmental services workers in healthcare settings are sparse and none has been conducted in the Asian context. This qualitative study thus aimed to examine the experiences of those who worked for a year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Predictive model of recurrent ischemic stroke: model development from real-world data.

Background: There are established correlations between risk factors and ischemic stroke (IS) recurrence; however, does the hazard of recurrent IS change over time? What is the predicted baseline hazard of recurrent IS if there is no influence of variable predictors? This study aimed to quantify the hazard of recurrent IS when the variable predictors were set to zero and quantify the secondary prevention influence on the hazard of recurrent ischemic stroke.

Methods: In the population cohort involved in this study, data were extracted from 7,697 patients with a history of first IS attack registered with the National Neurology Registry of Malaysia from 2009 to 2016. A time-to-recurrent IS model was developed using NONMEM version 7.

Digital competencies for Singapore's national medical school curriculum: a qualitative study.

Studies have shown that national-level initiatives to equip medical students with relevant digital competencies carry many benefits. Yet, few countries have outlined such competencies for clinical practice in the core medical school curriculum. This paper identifies current training gaps at the national level in digital competencies needed by students in the formal curricula of all three medical schools in Singapore from the perspectives of clinical educators and institutional leaders.

Challenges in Complex Oncological Chest Wall Reconstruction with Free Anterolateral Thigh Flap and Titanium Rib Plate.

Extensive chest wall tumor resection and reconstruction possess a formidable challenge and require good collaboration between thoracic and reconstructive surgeons. In this article, we reviewed our experience in six consecutive cases requiring complex chest wall resection and reconstruction with titanium rib plates and free anterolateral thigh fasciocutaneous flap with fascia lata with a minimum 24 months follow-up postoperatively. Six patients with a mean age of 54 were diagnosed to have locally advanced malignant (  = 5) and benign (  = 1) tumors.

Exploring the views of Singapore junior doctors on medical curricula for the digital age: A case study.

This study aims to explore the perspectives of medical trainees on the impartation of digital competencies in Singapore's medical school curricula. It also considers how the medical school experience can be strengthened in order to bridge potential gaps in the integration of these competencies in the local curricula. Findings were drawn from individual interviews with 44 junior doctors from Singapore's public healthcare institutions including hospitals and national specialty centers.

Barriers to help-seeking for Malaysian women with symptoms of breast cancer: a mixed-methods, two-step cluster analysis.

Background: Improving help-seeking behaviour is a key component of down-staging breast cancer and improving survival, but the specific challenges faced by low-income women in an Asian setting remain poorly characterized. Here, we determined the extent of help-seeking delay among Malaysian breast cancer patients who presented at late stages and explored sub-groups of women who may face specific barriers.

Methods: Time to help-seeking was assessed in 303 women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer between January 2015 and March 2020 at a suburban tertiary hospital in Malaysia.

Single-stage reconstruction of a traumatic tendocutaneous defect of the Achilles using free composite anterolateral thigh flap with vascularized fascia lata.

Combined tendocutaneous defect of Achilles tendon remains a complex reconstructive challenge whereby both the soft tissue coverage and tendon reconstruction have to be considered to achieve a good functional and aesthetic outcome. A 14-year-old boy who sustained an open right calcaneum fracture (Gustilo-Anderson IIIB) with a transected Achilles tendon and huge skin defect from motorcycle wheel spoke injury was admitted. The Achilles tendon repair site broke down following initial surgical debridement and primary repair, resulting in a sizeable combined tendocutaneous defect.
