Electro-optical effect-based liquid crystal devices have been extensively used in optical modulation techniques, in which the Kerr coefficient reflects the sensitivity of the liquid crystals and determines the strength of the device's operational electric field. The Peterlin-Stuart theory and the O'Konski model jointly indicate that a giant Kerr coefficient could be obtained in a material with both a large geometrical anisotropy and an intrinsic polarization, but such a material is not yet reported. Here we reveal a ferroelectric effect in a monolayer two-dimensional mineral vermiculite.

Background: The role of endovascular therapy for acute stroke with a large infarction has not been extensively studied in differing populations.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective, open-label, randomized trial in China involving patients with acute large-vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score of 3 to 5 (range, 0 to 10, with lower values indicating larger infarction) or an infarct-core volume of 70 to 100 ml. Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio within 24 hours from the time they were last known to be well to undergo endovascular therapy and receive medical management or to receive medical management alone.

The immunity of patients who recover from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could be long lasting but persist at a lower level. Thus, recovered patients still need to be vaccinated to prevent reinfection by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or its mutated variants. Here, we report that the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine can stimulate immunity in recovered patients to maintain high levels of anti-receptor-binding domain (RBD) and anti-nucleocapsid protein (NP) antibody titers within 9 months, and high neutralizing activity against the prototype, Delta, and Omicron strains was observed.

TNP-2198, a stable conjugate of a rifamycin pharmacophore and a nitroimidazole pharmacophore, has been designed, synthesized, and evaluated as a novel dual-targeted antibacterial agent for the treatment of microaerophilic and anaerobic bacterial infections. TNP-2198 exhibits greater activity than a 1:1 molar mixture of the parent drugs and exhibits activity against strains resistant to both rifamycins and nitroimidazoles. A crystal structure of TNP-2198 bound to a RNA polymerase transcription initiation complex reveals that the rifamycin portion of TNP-2198 binds to the rifamycin binding site on RNAP and the nitroimidazole portion of TNP-2198 interacts directly with the DNA template-strand in the RNAP active-center cleft, forming a hydrogen bond with a base of the DNA template strand.

We performed proteogenomic characterization of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) using paired tumor and adjacent liver tissues from 262 patients. Integrated proteogenomic analyses prioritized genetic aberrations and revealed hallmarks of iCCA pathogenesis. Recent evidence suggests that CD147 serves as a novel receptor for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Blocking CD147 via anti-CD147 antibody could suppress the in vitro SARS-CoV-2 replication. Background And Purpose: The clinical practice of three-dimensional TOF-MRA, despite its capability in brain artery assessment, has been hampered by the relatively long scan time, while recent developments in fast imaging techniques with random undersampling has shed light on an improved balance between image quality and imaging speed.
