Two-dimensional (2D) ion crystals may represent a promising path to scale up qubit numbers for ion trap quantum information processing. However, to realize universal quantum computing in this system, individually addressed high-fidelity two-qubit entangling gates still remain challenging due to the inevitable micromotion of ions in a 2D crystal as well as the technical difficulty in 2D addressing. Here we demonstrate two-qubit entangling gates between any ion pairs in a 2D crystal of four ions.

Article Synopsis
  • * A clinical trial in China found that 33% of patients treated with tenecteplase had low disability scores after 90 days, compared to 24% of those receiving standard treatment, indicating tenecteplase may be more effective.
  • * Safety results showed similar mortality rates (around 13%) for both treatments, but the tenecteplase group had a slightly higher rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (3%) compared to standard treatment (0.8%).

Background: Myocardial mitochondrial dysfunction underpins the pathogenesis of heart failure (HF), yet therapeutic options to restore myocardial mitochondrial function are scarce. Epigenetic modifications of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), such as methylation, play a pivotal role in modulating mitochondrial homeostasis. However, their involvement in HF remains unclear.

Background: Medial arterial calcification is a chronic systemic vascular disorder distinct from atherosclerosis and is commonly observed in patients with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and aging individuals. We previously showed that NR4A3 (nuclear receptor subfamily 4 group A member 3), an orphan nuclear receptor, is a key regulator in apo (apolipoprotein) A-IV-induced atherosclerosis progression; however, its role in vascular calcification is poorly understood.

Methods: We generated NR4A3 mice and 2 different types of medial arterial calcification models to investigate the biological roles of NR4A3 in vascular calcification.

Generating ion-photon entanglement is a crucial step for scalable trapped-ion quantum networks. To avoid the crosstalk on memory qubits carrying quantum information, it is common to use a different ion species for ion-photon entanglement generation such that the scattered photons are far off-resonant for the memory qubits. However, such a dual-species scheme can be subject to inefficient sympathetic cooling due to the mass mismatch of the ions.

Rationale And Objectives: Osteoporosis is primarily diagnosed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA); yet, DXA is significantly underutilized, causing osteoporosis, an underdiagnosed condition. We aimed to provide an opportunistic approach to screen for osteoporosis using artificial intelligence based on lumbar spine X-ray radiographs.

Materials And Methods: In this institutional review board-approved retrospective study, female patients aged ≥50 years who received both X-ray scans and DXA of the lumbar vertebrae, in three centers, were included.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a risk factor for cardiovascular events. This study evaluated the relationship between Lp(a) and high-risk attributes by coronary computed tomography angiography as well as their prognostic value.

Methods: Lp(a) and coronary computed tomography angiography from 377 consecutive patients at Zhongshan Hospital (Shanghai, China) were evaluated.

The immunity of patients who recover from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could be long lasting but persist at a lower level. Thus, recovered patients still need to be vaccinated to prevent reinfection by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or its mutated variants. Here, we report that the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine can stimulate immunity in recovered patients to maintain high levels of anti-receptor-binding domain (RBD) and anti-nucleocapsid protein (NP) antibody titers within 9 months, and high neutralizing activity against the prototype, Delta, and Omicron strains was observed.

Immune checkpoint blockade therapy (ICB) is ineffective against cold tumors and, although it is effective against some hot tumors, drug resistance can occur. We have developed a immunotherapy (PI) that can overcome these shortcomings. However, the specific killing effect of PI on tumor cells is relatively weak.

Rationale: Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) phenotype switch from contractile to proliferative phenotype is a pathological hallmark in various cardiovascular diseases. Recently, a subset of long noncoding RNAs was identified to produce functional polypeptides. However, the functional impact and regulatory mechanisms of long noncoding RNAs in VSMCs phenotype switching remain to be fully elucidated.

Aucubin (AUB), which is extracted from Oliver seeds, has been found to possess anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic properties. Recent studies have indicated that inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis are involved in the pathophysiology of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cardiac dysfunction. Our study aimed to investigate the effect of AUB on LPS-induced acute cardiac injury.

Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic performance of quantitative parameters derived from dual-energy CT for the preoperative diagnosis of metastatic sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in participants with breast cancer. Materials and Methods For this prospective study, dual-phase contrast agent-enhanced CT was performed in female participants with breast cancer from June 2015 to December 2017. Quantitative dual-energy CT parameters and morphologic parameters were compared between metastatic and nonmetastatic SLNs.

The spin and parity of the Z_{c}(3900)^{±} state are determined to be J^{P}=1^{+} with a statistical significance larger than 7σ over other quantum numbers in a partial wave analysis of the process e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ. We use a data sample of 1.92  fb^{-1} accumulated at sqrt[s]=4.

Background: We recently discovered that Tubastatin-A, a histone deacetylase (HDAC6) inhibitor, can improve survival in a rodent model of hemorrhagic shock (HS), but mechanisms remain poorly defined. In this study, we investigated whether Tubastatin-A could protect intestinal tight junction (TJ) in HS.

Methods: In an in-vivo study with Wistar-Kyoto rats, the rats underwent HS (40% blood loss) followed by Tubastatin-A (70 mg/kg) treatment, without fluid resuscitation.

Objectives: Aortic valve (AV) calcification occurs via a pathophysiological process that includes lipoprotein deposition, inflammation, and osteoblastic differentiation of valvular interstitial cells. Here, we investigated the association between endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and AV calcification.

Approach And Results: We identified ER stress activation in AV of patients with calcified AV stenosis.
