Although atrial fibrillation (AF) Arrhythmia is highly prevalent within a wide range of populations with major associated risks and due to its episodic occurrence, its recognition remains a challenge for doctors. This paper aims to present and experimentally validate a new efficient approach for the detection and classification of this cardiac anomaly using multiple Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. This work consists of applying Stockwell transform (ST) with compact support kernel (ST-CSK) for ECG time-frequency analysis.

The S-Transform provides frequency-dependent resolution while maintaining a direct relationship with the Fourier spectrum.

In this paper, we introduce a new system for ECG beat classification using Support Vector Machines (SVMs) classifier with rejection. After ECG preprocessing, the QRS complexes are detected and segmented. A set of features including frequency information, RR intervals, QRS morphology and AC power of QRS detail coefficients is exploited to characterize each beat.

The QRS complex represents the most important component within the ECG signal. Its detection is the first step of all kinds of automatic feature extraction.
