Dual mobility versus unipolar total hip arthroplasty for neck of femur fractures : a single centre study.

Current national guidelines (NICE) recommends that all medically fit, independently-mobile patients without cognitive impairment receive a total hip arTHAoplasty(THA) for displaced intracapsular neck of femur (NOF) fractures. Dislocation is a concern(2-10%). Dual mobility cups have been suggested to address this complication.

Introduction: The Trauma network was established in April 2012 in England to improve the care of patients with trauma. The care of major trauma was centralised to major trauma centres. This article aims to survey trauma team members (TTM) to compare perceptions of trauma care delivery in major trauma centres (MTC) and trauma units (TU) from where major trauma care has been diverted.

Should all acromioclavicular joint injections be performed under image guidance?

Introduction: Steroid and local anaesthetic injection to the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) is a very common diagnostic and therapeutic procedure, which is often performed in the outpatient department. However, it can be difficult to localize this joint because of its small size, presence of osteophytes and variable morphology in the population. We performed a study to determine whether the use of an image intensifier (X-ray guidance), in theatre, improves the accuracy of this injection.

Does osteofibrous dysplasia progress to adamantinoma and how should they be treated?

Aims: The aim of this study was to identify any progression between benign osteofibrous dysplasia (OFD), OFD-like adamantinoma and malignant adamantinoma, and to investigate the rates of local recurrence, metastases and survival, in order to develop treatment algorithms for each.

Patients And Methods: A single institution retrospective review of all patients presenting with OFD, OFD-like adamantinoma and adamantinoma between 1973 and 2012 was undertaken. Complete data were available for 73 patients (42 with OFD; ten with an OFD-like adamantinoma and 21 with an adamantinoma).

The sensitivity of ct scans in diagnosing occult femoral neck fractures.

Non-displaced hip fractures can be difficult to diagnose on plain film radiographs. When there is ongoing clinical suspicion of an occult fracture, further imaging is obtained. We investigated the sensitivity of computed tomography (CT) scans in detecting these fractures and the delays to surgery that three-dimensional imaging causes.
