The feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a highly contagious virus that affects cats worldwide, characterized by leukopenia, high temperature and diarrhea. Recently, the continuous prevalence and variation of FPV have attracted widespread concern. The aim of this study was to investigate the isolation, genetic evolution, molecular characterization and epidemiological analysis of FPV strains among cats and dogs in China from 2019 to 2024.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of secreted frizzled-related protein 5 (SFRP5), an adipokine, in the hypertrophic mesenteric adipose tissue (htMAT) of Crohn disease (CD) patients and its impact on intestinal inflammation.
  • SFRP5 levels were found to be higher in the diseased MAT and it aggregates among intestinal epithelial cells, suggesting a potential protective role against intestinal barrier dysfunction.
  • The findings highlight that SFRP5 may help mitigate apoptosis in epithelial cells triggered by inflammation, offering new insights into treatment strategies for Crohn disease via the mesenteric pathway.

Background: Carinal resection and reconstruction are complex surgical procedures often necessitated by tumors or other pathologies involving the tracheobronchial junction. Traditional approaches to these surgeries are highly invasive. The advent of uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) along with the integration of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) offer potential advantages in reducing surgical trauma and improving outcomes.

The aging process often leads to immune-related diseases, including infections, tumors, and autoimmune disorders. Recently, researchers identified a special subpopulation of B cells in elderly female mice that increases with age and accumulates prematurely in mouse models of autoimmune diseases or viral infections; these B cells are known as age-related B cells (ABCs). These cells possess distinctive cell surface phenotypes and transcriptional characteristics, and the cell population is widely recognized as CD11cCD11bT-betCD21CD23 cells.

The management of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) refractory to hypomethylating agents (HMAs) remains a challenge with few reliably effective treatments. Preclinical studies have shown that the inhibition of the nuclear export protein XPO1 causes nuclear accumulation of p53 and disruption of NF-κB signaling; both of which are relevant targets for MDS. Selinexor is an XPO1 inhibitor with demonstrated efficacy in MDS patients.
