Ceftriaxone-associated renal toxicity in adults: a case report and recommendations for the management of such cases.

What Is Known And Objective: Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Ceftriaxone-associated urolithiasis and post-renal acute renal failure (PARF) in adults is exceedingly rare and perhaps underappreciated. We report one such case to increase appreciation of this risk and provide recommendations for its management based on our experience and a review of other similar cases.

Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can induce cell transformation and tumourigenesis, but the mechanism is not understood. Previous studies have suggested that LMP1 acts through up-regulation of cellular proliferation pathways including the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, in which β-catenin is the central effector. Increased levels of β-catenin coupled with a decrease in E-cadherin lead to reduced cell adhesion.

Association of uteroglobin G38A polymorphism with IgA nephropathy: a meta-analysis.

Both uteroglobin knockout and antisense transgenic mice develop pathological and clinical features similar to immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy. However, several association studies of uteroglobin G38A polymorphism and IgA nephropathy showed controversial findings. We used meta-analysis to assess the impact of the uteroglobin G38A polymorphism on susceptibility to and progression of IgA nephropathy.

Changes in human brainstem auditory evoked potentials during a 1,100 kPa He-O2 simulated saturation dive.

Four divers were chosen as subjects to conduct the 1,100 kPa He-O2 simulated saturation dive. Brainstem auditory evoked potentials of the divers were monitored during different stages of the exposure. At 1,100 kPa, with both 10 and 50 Hz clicks, interpeak latencies I-V were prolonged by 0.
