The release of soluble interleukin 6 receptor (IL-6sR) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) was investigated in polymorphonuclear and whole blood cell cultures from untreated patients with breast cancer. IL-6sR and IL-6 were determined in the culture supernatants by a sensitive enzymoimmunological assay. We have shown a decreased ability of unstimulated and stimulated polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) and whole blood cells (WBC) of cancer patients to release IL-6sR in comparison to a control group.

In the present work we have examined the release of soluble IL-6 receptor (IL-6sR) by polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) in response to different stimuli: zymosan, ConA, PHA and LPS. We have also investigated the generation of IL-6sR by whole blood cells (WBC) under the same condition of the culture. IL-6sR secreted by PMNs and WBC were detected in cell-free supernatants by ELISA.

The release of soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors (sTNF-Rs): soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor I (sTNF-RI) and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor II (sTNF-RII) by polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) derived from patients with breast cancer were measured. Serum levels of sTNF-RII and sTNF-RII in patients group were also determined. Significantly higher values of sTNF-RI and sTNF-RII released by PMNs of patients were observed than those in the healthy subjects.

Chemotaxis, spontaneous migration, phagocytosis, expression of the receptors of Fc Ig fragments and of C3 component of complement has been examined in blood of 51 patients with obesity divided into 3 groups with: 1. disturbances in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, 2. disturbance in lipid metabolism, 3.

The spontaneous migration and chemotaxis of leukocytes has been measured in 103 diabetic patients with 1 ans 2 type diabetes controlled and uncontrolled diabetes as well as in patients those treated with oral hypoglycemic drugs or insulin. The obtained results have been compared with appropriate parameters from 32 healthy individuals. Our findings indicate increase of spontaneous migration of PMN.
