The Marsden Morbidity Index: the derivation and validation of a simple risk index scoring system using cardiopulmonary exercise testing variables to predict morbidity in high-risk patients having major cancer surgery.

Background: Morbidity and mortality risk prediction tools are increasingly being used as part of preoperative assessment of patients presenting for major abdominal surgery. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) can predict which patients undergoing major abdominal surgery are at risk of complications. The primary objective of this study was to identify preoperative variables including those derived from CPET, which were associated with inpatient morbidity in high-risk patients following major abdominal cancer surgery.

An Anaesthesiology and Emergency Medicine Multidisciplinary Simulation-Based Bootcamp.

Aim The fundamental concept of multidisciplinary education is a shared mental model that leads to better interdependent collaboration. The aim of this bootcamp was to create a sustainable induction curriculum for Anaesthesiology and Emergency Medicine trainees and nurses through training in a simulated multidisciplinary environment. Methods The two-day bootcamp consisted of lectures, equipment demonstration, workshops, and high-fidelity simulated scenarios.

"Rapid sequence induction"-an anaesthesiology boot camp.

Background: The novice anaesthesiology trainee must rapidly assimilate the cognitive, technical and non-technical skills necessary to competently respond to critical events in their new role. Providing trainees with the safe and controlled environment of high-fidelity patient simulation is one method to compensate for gaps in trainee experience, offering the potential for effective training. An anaesthesiology boot camp was set up to increase the knowledge, clinical, technical and non-technical competencies of the novice trainee, creating a framework for their future learning and practice.
