Testicular Estrogen-Secreting Leydig Cell Tumor in 18F-FDG PET/CT: An Incidental Detection in a Patient Treated by Chemotherapy for Hodgkin Lymphoma.

We present images of a 50-year-old man who referred for treatment of a classic Hodgkin lymphoma. While F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated a complete metabolic remission after chemotherapy, an increased F-FDG uptake of a right testicular lesion in F-FDG PET/CT and an unexplained bilateral gynecomastia were observed. A benign Leydig cell tumor was histopathologically proved after a right radical orchiectomy.

Antibiotics and immunity: effects of antibiotics on mitogen responsiveness of lymphocytes and interleukin-2 production.

The immunomodulating properties of antimicrobial drugs may have important implications in prescriptive practice. This is particularly so for patients whose immune system has been compromised. In this study, tetracycline, cephalothin, rifampicin, polymyxin B and nitrofurantoin reduced mitogen responsiveness of both B and T lymphocytes of mouse spleen cells and human peripheral blood lymphocytes in vitro in a dose-dependent fashion.

T cell functions in infants and children with beta-thalassemia.

Thirty-five infants and children with beta-thalassemia major and 12 with beta-thalassemia trait were studied. Their ages ranged between 6 months and 12 years. Thirty-three were males and 14 females.

Antibiotics and immunity: effects of antibiotics on natural killer, antibody dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity and antibody production.

We studied the effects of antibiotics on natural killer (NK), antibody dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and immunoglobulin production. When human peripheral blood lymphocytes were incubated overnight with the antibiotic before the assay, nitrofurantoin significantly reduced NK but not ADCC activity. Nitrofurantoin also suppressed both spontaneous and interferon-enhanced NK activities in a dose-dependent fashion.

Immunoglobulin levels, opsonic activity and phagocytic power in Egyptian thalassemic children.

Serum IgG, IgM and IgA were determined in 25 patients with homozygous beta thalassemia and 7 with the trait. The levels were increased in homozygous patients and increased further after splenectomy. Serum opsonic activity against Salmonella typhi and staphylococci was impaired in homozygous patients.
