The present study investigated the effect of unilateral axotomy of urinary bladder trigone (UBT)-projecting nerve fibers from the right anterior pelvic ganglion (APG) on changes in the chemical coding of their neuronal bodies. The study was performed using male pigs with immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The animals were divided into a control (C), a morphological (MG) or a molecular biology group (MBG).

The aim of the present study was to investigate the distribution of neuronal perikarya and nerve fibres and their chemical coding in the heart of 10-week-old porcine foetuses. The foetuses, obtained from a local slaughterhouse, were fixed by immersion in 4% buffered (pH 7.4) paraformaldehyde.

Article Synopsis
  • The study used retrograde tracing and immunofluorescence to analyze neuron distribution and chemical coding in aorticoerenal (ARG) and testicular (TG) ganglia that supply the urinary bladder apex (UBA) in juvenile male pigs.
  • Fast Blue tracer was injected into the bladder to label neurons, and after three weeks, various neurochemicals like tyrosine hydroxylase and neuropeptide Y were investigated in the ganglia using confocal microscopy.
  • Findings showed a significant number of neurons projecting to the UBA, mainly in TG and predominantly noradrenergic, suggesting a complex neuro-endocrine role in regulating porcine urogenital function.
