Introduction: Sesame allergy, though with low prevalence, can result in severe, potentially life-threatening reactions and poses challenges in allergen avoidance due to hidden sources. In the majority of patients, sesame allergy persists and there is currently no effective long-term treatment available. Therefore, oral immunotherapy (OIT) is a promising alternative approach to managing sesame allergy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of end-ischemic dual hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (dHOPE) compared to static cold storage (SCS) for preserving livers from brain-dead donors.
  • A total of 104 liver transplant recipients were analyzed, focusing on biliary complications and graft survival over two years, with dHOPE showing promising results primarily in high-risk grafts.
  • The findings indicate that while dHOPE did not significantly improve outcomes in low-risk cases, it led to 100% graft survival in high-risk patients compared to 73.1% with SCS.

Objective: To assess whether end-ischemic hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE) is superior to static cold storage (SCS) in preserving livers procured from donors after brain death (DBD).

Background: There is increasing evidence of the benefits of HOPE in liver transplantation, but predominantly in the setting of high-risk donors.

Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, livers procured from DBDs were randomly assigned to either end-ischemic dual HOPE for at least 2 hours or SCS (1:3 allocation ratio).

The link between human ocular morphology and attractiveness, especially in the context of its potential adaptive function, is an underexplored area of research. In our study, we examined the association between facial attractiveness and three sexually dimorphic measures of ocular morphology in White Europeans: the sclera size index, width-to-height ratio, and relative iris luminance. Sixty participants (30 women) assessed the attractiveness of the opposite-sex photographs of 50 men and 50 women.

Background: Despite inconsistent evidence, international guidelines underline the importance of perioperative hyperoxygenation in prevention of postoperative infections. Further, data on safety and efficacy of this method in liver transplant setting are lacking. The aim was to evaluate efficacy and safety of postoperative hyperoxygenation in prophylaxis of infections after liver transplantation.
