Spurious hyperbicarbonatemia and a negative anion gap in a cat and a dog with severe rhabdomyolysis.

A 3-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair cat and a 2-year-old male neutered Labrador-mix dog were separately presented to the Veterinary Medical Center for evaluation after sustaining significant muscle trauma due to a dog attack and seizure activity, respectively. In both cases, biochemical analysis was consistent with rhabdomyolysis. Additionally, a markedly increased measured serum bicarbonate concentration and negative calculated anion gap were observed.

Rectal necrosis in the setting of critical illness and burn.

The rectum is an anatomically protected and well vascularized structure. Injury to the rectum is usually the result of penetrating perineal mechanisms or reported scalding enemas. Here, we report a case of isolated rectal necrosis following a 72 % total body surface area burn that resulted from a motor vehicle crash.

Clinical use of tissue plasminogen activator for systemic thrombolysis in dogs and cats.

Introduction: Systemic administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is seldomly reported in dogs and cats.

Animals: Client-owned animals receiving tPA (2010-2020).

Materials And Methods: Medical records of dogs and cats receiving tPA for distant known/suspected thrombus were reviewed.

Primary Aortoduodenal Fistula: A Case Report and Current Literature Review.

Primary aortoduodenal fistula is a rare, life-threatening pathology that is difficult to diagnose and manage. We present the case of a 64-year-old male with a primary aortoduodenal fistula. Our patient initially underwent an endovascular aneurysm repair at an outside institution before being transferred to our tertiary care center, where he ultimately had definitive management with an extra-anatomic bypass, aortic ligation, duodenal resection with primary anastomosis, and gastrojejunostomy tube placement.
