Small species with high home fidelity, high ecological specialization or low vagility are particularly prone to suffer from habitat modification and fragmentation. The Lima leaf-toed gecko (Phyllodactylus sentosus) is a critically endangered Peruvian species that shelters mostly in pre-Incan archeological areas called huacas, where the original environmental conditions are maintained. We used genotyping by sequencing to understand the population genomic history of P.

Objectives: The contralateral medial olivocochlear reflex (MOCR) strength may indicate various auditory conditions in humans, but a clinically viable assay and equipment are needed for quick, accurate, and reliable measurements. The first experiment compared an earlier version of the assay, which used a nonlinear-mode chirp stimulus, with a new assay using a linear-mode click stimulus, designed to give reliable MOCR measurements in most normal-hearing ears. The second experiment extended the improved assay on a purpose-built binaural hardware platform that used forward-pressure level (FPL) calibration for both the stimulus and the contralateral MOCR elicitor.

Background: Aortic diameter at time of dissection remains an indispensable risk-determining characteristic for prophylactic repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms. Histograms of aortic size at the time of dissection have the potential to shed more light on this relationship.

Methods: Size of the thoracic aorta at the time of dissection was determined from imaging of 407 naturally occurring, acute, flap-type ascending or descending aortic dissections treated at 1 institution (1990-2022).

Objectives: Academic medical literature is fraught with complex article-specific acronyms and abbreviations that can impair communication and make reading arduous. Our goal is to ease frustration with bespoke, inconsistent, and variable sets of abbreviations that currently exist for common aorta-related terminology (eg, anatomy, imaging, disease, and therapy). We hope to ease reading and improve communication in the aortic sphere of cardiovascular literature.

Two penta-coordinate complexes of the general formula [Co(Ln)(NCS)]ClO4, where L1 = {bis[(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)ethyl]-[(3,4-dimethoxypyridin-2-yl)methyl]}amine and L2 = {bis[(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)ethyl]-[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethylpyridin-2-yl)methyl]}amine, have been synthesized and thoroughly characterized. Each of the cobalt(ii) atoms is penta-coordinated in the {CoN5} donor set with a distorted square-pyramidal geometry in [Co(L1)(NCS)]ClO4·MeOH (1), while the vicinity of the central atom can be described as a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry in [Co(L2)(NCS)]ClO4 (2) as revealed using the SHAPE analysis. Differences in interatomic parameters among the cobalt(ii) and donor atoms in 1 and 2 have definite impact on the magnetic features of both compounds.
