Among 585 Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated in 22 Croatian hospitals 21 strains (3.6%) were quinolone nonsusceptible. MICs of all quinolones were high for seven strains tested with the same serotype (23F) and mutations in gyrA, parC, and parE.

Endoscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic method which is being increasingly used in various fields of medicine, especially in minimal invasive surgery. During the endoscopic procedure, endoscopes are contaminated with patient's microbial flora. After each procedure and before the next patient, endoscope should be reprocessed in a way to be safe from post-procedural infection.

The authors review results for detection of acid-fast bacilli by the method of direct fluorescent microscopy in cytologic specimens obtained by fiberbronchoscopy and in which a granulomatous inflammation was found cytomorphologically. Direct fluorescent microscopy revealed acid-fast bacilli in 30.2% of the specimens.
