The authors evaluate a group of 1409 arthroscopic operations and 69 reoperations of the knee joint in the course of six years'activities. They analyze the causes which led to the reoperation and the most frequent findings recorded during rearthroscopies. They present their views on indication and timing of reoperations based on experience they have assembled.

The group was formed by miners working underground and a second group of patients who were not miners. The stratification of the two groups was made by age, circumstances under which the first symptoms developed, the surgical macroscopic and microscopic picture.
