Extended-criteria donors (ECDs) are seen as a means of addressing the shortfall in solid-organ availability for transplant. However, the use of ECD kidneys is associated with a greater risk of primary non-function compared with standard-criteria donor kidneys, and a higher discard rate has been described internationally. There seems to be a lack of consensus in the consideration of ECD kidneys for transplant, with reliance often placed on the subjective assessment of individual clinicians.

The brewing process limits its consumption to a day or two after production due to the constant production of carbon dioxide. In this study the physicochemical and microbial changes in Umqombothi produced at two-stage fermentation temperatures [U1 (30-30 °C), U2 (30-25 °C), U3 (25-30 °C)] were studied over 52 h.

Microbe-derived, chitin-based elicitors activate plant cell surface receptors and trigger nuclear calcium oscillations, which are decoded by a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CCaMK) and its target transcription factor interacting protein of DMI3 (IPD3). Genes encoding CCaMK and IPD3 have been lost in multiple non-mycorrhizal plant lineages yet retained among non-mycorrhizal mosses.

These nodules host the rhizobia and allow them to fix nitrogen efficiently. The perception of bacterial lipo-chitooligosaccharides (LCOs) in the epidermis initiates a signaling cascade that allows rhizobial intracellular infection in the root and de-differentiation and activation of cell division that gives rise to the nodule.

This conduct has been reported to have a negative impact on environment and human health. This study aimed to investigate alternative approaches such as hot water (HW) and electrolyzed water (WE) treatments for decay management of 'Granny Smith' apples.
