Background: There is a scarcity of long-term data on steroid-free immunosuppression using alemtuzumab in pediatric kidney transplantation (KTx). This study examines long-term outcomes with alemtuzumab without steroid maintenance therapy in pediatric KTx.

Methods: From July 2005 to June 2015, 71 pediatric KTx recipients received alemtuzumab without steroid maintenance.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzed over 1,150 HPS patients, finding that higher MELD scores (a measure of liver disease severity) corresponded to increased pre-transplant mortality and lower chances of receiving a transplant.
  • * Post-transplant, patients with a PaO <45 mmHg showed lower survival rates, with significant differences in survival becoming apparent after 2.6 years; however, those patients still had a median survival of 11.5 years, indicating

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a prohaemostatic state with abnormal primary, secondary and tertiary haemostasis. Plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1 is the best-established marker for prohaemostasis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. While epidemiological studies demonstrate decompensated non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) cirrhosis patients have increased rates of venous thromboembolism, including portal vein thrombosis, mechanistic studies have focused exclusively on patients without or with compensated cirrhosis.

Unlabelled: Renal dysfunction is associated with poor long-term outcomes after liver transplantation. We examined the renal sparing effect of everolimus (EVR) compared to standard calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) immunosuppression with direct measurements of renal function over 24 months.

Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, open-label trial comparing EVR and mycophenolic acid (MPA) with CNI and MPA immunosuppression.
