Background: At the end of 2022, China adjusted its coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) prevention and control strategy. How this adjustment affected the cumulative infection rate is debated, and how second booster dose vaccination affected the pandemic remains unclear.

Methods: We collected COVID-19 case data for China's mainland from December 7, 2022, to January 7, 2023, reported by the World Health Organization.

Spatiotemporal imaging of nonlinear optics in van der Waals waveguides.

Van der Waals (vdW) semiconductors have emerged as promising platforms for efficient nonlinear optical conversion, including harmonic and entangled photon generation. Although major efforts are devoted to integrating vdW materials in nanoscale waveguides for miniaturization, the realization of efficient, phase-matched conversion in these platforms remains challenging. Here, to address this challenge, we report a far-field ultrafast imaging method to track the propagation of both fundamental and harmonic waves within vdW waveguides with femtosecond and sub-50 nanometre spatiotemporal precision.

Family Incarceration and Mental Health Among 101,417 Affected Families: A Systematic Review and Multilevel Meta-Analysis.

Most if not all previous evidence focused primarily on psychological disorders of prisoners/ex-prisoners, whereas the secondary trauma symptoms across the whole family await clarification. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the associations between exposure to family incarceration and psychiatric symptoms and moderators of the associations. This systemic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines (CRD42023495095).

Functional Characterization and In Silico Prediction Tools Improve the Pathogenicity Prediction of Novel Bile Acid Transporter Variants.

The pathogenicity of cholestatic liver diseases (CLDs) remains insufficiently characterized, hindering definitive diagnosis and timely treatment. The aim of this study was to improve the pathogenicity prediction of novel bile acid (BA) transporter variants in patients with CLDs. We analyzed the clinical characteristics and genetic profiles of a CLD cohort (n = 57) using multiple in silico tools and in vitro functional assays.

Vascular calcification is considered to be a killer of the cardiovascular system, involved inflammation and immunity. There is no approved therapeutic strategy for the prevention of vascular calcification. Sinomenine exhibited anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
