12-month outcomes of ziv-aflibercept for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in eyes previously treated with aflibercept.

Purpose: To investigate the 12-month outcomes of ziv-aflibercept for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in eyes previously treated with aflibercept.

Methods: Retrospective chart review of patients with nAMD previously treated with aflibercept for at least 12 months and subsequently transitioned to ziv-aflibercept between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2022, for a period of at least 12 months. Participants were identified, and their clinical and imaging information was extracted from our electronic health records system.

Success of Endoscopic Laser Cyclophotocoagulation vs Repeat Transscleral Treatment after Prior Transscleral Cycloablation.

Aim: To compare the efficacy of endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP) vs repeat transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TCP) in eyes with persistent glaucoma despite prior treatment with TCP.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of glaucoma patients at the American University of Beirut Medical Center over 10 years who underwent ECP or repeat TCP. We reported qualified and complete success; success was defined as postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) ≤21 mm Hg, with (qualified) or without medications (complete) and without procedure-related complications.

A comparison of the workload between pediatric and adult ophthalmology encounters.

Purpose: To explore the differences in workload between pediatric and adult ophthalmology encounters in the private clinics of an academic medical center.

Methods: Complete encounters from four different subspecialties were analysed: pediatric ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology/neuroophthalmology, anterior segment, and retina. Five parameters were studied: time waiting for assistant, time with assistant, time waiting for physician, time with physician, and total visit time.

Change in cardiac troponin T level after intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment: Prospective pilot study.

Background: Evaluate subclinical myocardial injury associated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy by measuring serum high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T.

Methods: This is a prospective pilot comparative study conducted at American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. In total, 40 consecutive patients were randomized to receive either intravitreal bevacizumab or ranibizumab.

Sequential pars plana vitrectomy and cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation in patient with corneal inlay who developed retinal detachment followed by cataract.

Twenty-one months after successful small-aperture corneal inlay (Kamra) implantation simultaneous with myopic laser in situ keratomileusis, a patient presented with a superior rhegmatogenous macula-involving retinal detachment. Successful pars plana vitrectomy, transscleral cryotherapy, and gas tamponade were performed with the inlay in situ. Three months later, uneventful phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation were performed, also with the inlay in situ, for a visually significant cataract.
