Pill aspiration is a significant source of foreign body aspiration in the United States and can occur without swallowing dysfunction or illness. Consequences depend on various factors, such as the pill's chemical composition, size, and diagnostic delay. Aspiration of iron tablets poses a higher risk because of hydroxyl radical formation and subsequent caustic burns, inflammation, obstruction, and/or necrosis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFComplications from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome are notorious for mimicking other neurological diseases. We describe a case of HIV encephalitis presenting with the classic clinical features of Huntington's Disease in a woman without known HIV risk factors or other clinical stigmata suggestive of immunosuppression. This case reminds us that HIV should be part of the differential diagnosis in unexplainable neurological diseases.
