Purpose: To determine the prevalence of glaucoma among patients referred to a glaucoma service with suspicious disc photographs from the diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening program.

Methods: A clinical audit of all patients attending a single-center DR screening program in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, between July 2010 and October 2011 was conducted with a minimum follow-up of 30 months. The DR screening service uses trained technician graders to assess 2-field color retinal photographs for the features of DR.

During the last decade, the presumed etiology of glaucoma has moved from a pure pressure concept to a combined mechanical and vascular theory. Evidence of a localized vascular insufficiency leading to perfusion deficits of ocular structures, including the optic nerve head, the retina, the choroid, and the retrobulbar vessels, is now clear. This article evaluates the role of vasospasm as the primary cause of such a vascular failure.

Purpose: To determine the relation between the fluorescein transit test time and postoperative relief of epiphora in patent dacryocystorhinostomies.

Methods: A retrospective study of 40 patients who underwent 42 external dacryocystorhinostomies between January 1994 and January 2000 was performed. Postoperative symptomatic success was assessed by a questionnaire.

We describe a 1-stage surgical technique to treat vitreous floaters. Phacoemulsification is combined with a deep anterior vitrectomy through a posterior curvilinear capsulorhexis followed by implantation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens. The technique was used in 10 eyes of 6 patients.
