Quantification of human papillomavirus cell-free DNA from low-volume blood plasma samples by digital PCR.

The incidence rate of human papillomavirus-driven oropharyngeal cancer (HPV-OPC) is increasing in countries with high human development index. HPV cell-free DNA (cfDNA) isolated from 3 to 4 mL blood plasma has been successfully used for therapy surveillance. A highly discussed application of HPV-cfDNA is early detection of HPV-OPC.

Generation of Vascularized Neural Organoids by Co-culturing with Mesodermal Progenitor Cells.

Organoids are three-dimensional (3D) constructs generated in stem cell cultures and are thought to mimic tissue and organ development . However, until recently, they often exclusively recapitulated the development of the organ`s parenchyma without the major components of the organ stroma. Here, we describe a protocol to incorporate stromal components, first of all blood vessels, by co-culturing with induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesodermal progenitor cells.

The Impact of Liver Cell Injury on Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Liver Disease.

Background: Patients with chronic liver disease often suffer from unspecific symptoms and report severe impairment in the quality of life. The underlying mechanisms are multifactorial and include disease-specific but also liver related causes. The current analysis evaluated the association of hepatocellular apoptosis in non-viral chronic liver disease and health-related quality of life (HRQL).

Treatment and survival of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: The incidence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is increasing worldwide and a poorly defined subset of patients develops end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Differences in the biological behaviour, tumour characteristics, associated risk factors, treatment outcomes and overall survival of patients with NASH-HCC remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to determine and analyze these differences in a large clinical cohort to guide treatment decisions.
