Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are some of the most common bacterial infections in the world. Nevertheless, as uncomplicated UTIs are treated empirically without culturing the urine, adequate knowledge of the resistance pattern of uropathogens is essential. Conventional urine culture and identification take at least 2 days.

Background: Neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) has been demonstrated to play important roles in the pathogenesis and progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Emerging evidence indicates that ligation of signal inhibitory receptor on leukocytes-1 (SIRL-1) can dampen Fc receptor-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in primary human neutrophils by reducing extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation. The current study aimed to determine the regulatory effects of SIRL-1 on the NET formation and ROS production by comparing RA patients and healthy controls (HC).

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infection constitutes a public health threat, which blaKPC was the major carbapenemases concerned in China. Timely and efficient diagnosis is of paramount importance for controlling the spread of drug-resistant bacteria. Here, we develop an approach based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for rapid confirmation of blaKPC within 60 min from samples collected.

Nowadays, rapid and accurate diagnosis of respiratory tract viruses is an urgent need to prevent another epidemic outbreak. To overcome this problem, we have developed a clustered, regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) loop mediated amplification (LAMP) technology to detect influenza A virus, influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial A virus, respiratory syncytial B virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, including variants of concern (B.1.

Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and lack a rapid diagnostic method. To improve the diagnosis of LRTIs, we established an available loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the detection of eight common lower respiratory pathogens, including Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. The whole process can be achieved within 1 h (sample to results read out).

Article Synopsis
  • Hypoxia (low oxygen) affects people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by increasing a protein called PADI4, which helps control certain immune cells called macrophages.
  • In the study, researchers looked at tissue and fluid from patients with RA and osteoarthritis (OA) to understand how hypoxia and PADI4 influence macrophage behavior.
  • They found that in RA patients, both types of macrophages (M1 and M2) were more active, and reducing PADI4 helped decrease swelling and damage in a rat model of arthritis.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists created a new test called RT-LAMP that can quickly and accurately find many different viruses that cause respiratory sickness, like the flu and RSV.
  • They tested this new method on real samples from sick people and compared it with another reliable test called RT-PCR, and found that both tests worked really well together.
  • This new RT-LAMP method might help doctors in hospitals give better diagnoses for common respiratory diseases faster.

Inflammatory cytokine-induced cell apoptosis is important for initiation and progression of chronic heart failure (CHF). Non-coding RNAs, including long non-coding RNAs and microRNAs, have emerged as critical regulators of this pathological process. The role in regulating inflammation and induction to cell apoptosis in CHF is not well understood.
