Background: Many types of tumors can arise in the esophagogastric junction (EGJ). Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising from the esophageal epithelia, adenocarcinoma arising from the gastric mucosa, or Barrett's esophageal mucosa are frequently observed in the EGJ.
