Objective: The aim was to summarise the prenatal ultrasound characteristics, associated anomalies and pregnancy outcomes of fetal right aortic arch (RAA) and to discuss the value of prenatal ultrasound diagnosis and prognostic analysis.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed 157 cases of fetal RAA diagnosed via prenatal ultrasound in our hospital from October 2017 to October 2022. RAA features were characterised by comparing prenatal ultrasound data with anatomical casting results after pregnancy termination or postnatal imaging and surgical intervention to analyse the prognosis and misdiagnoses of fetal RAA.

In thermal therapies, accurate estimation of in-tissue power deposition density (PDD) is essential for predicting temperature distributions over time or regularizing temperature imaging. Based on our previous work on ultrasound thermometry, namely, multi-thread thermal strain imaging (MT-TSI), this work develops an in vivo PDD estimation method. Specifically, by combining the TSI model infinitesimal echo strain filter with the bio-heat transfer theory (the Pennes equation), a finite-difference time-domain model is established to allow online extraction of the PDD.

Accurate building segmentation has become critical in various fields such as urban management, urban planning, mapping, and navigation. With the increasing diversity in the number, size, and shape of buildings, convolutional neural networks have been used to segment and extract buildings from such images, resulting in increased efficiency and utilization of image features. We propose a building semantic segmentation method to improve the traditional Unet convolutional neural network by integrating attention mechanism and boundary detection.

Quality control (QC) in mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics is mainly based on data-dependent acquisition (DDA) analysis of standard samples. Here, we collect 2754 files acquired by data independent acquisition (DIA) and paired 2638 DDA files from mouse liver digests using 21 mass spectrometers across nine laboratories over 31 months. Our data demonstrate that DIA-based LC-MS/MS-related consensus QC metrics exhibit higher sensitivity compared to DDA-based QC metrics in detecting changes in LC-MS status.

The blood proteome contains biomarkers of ageing and age-associated diseases, but such markers are rarely validated longitudinally. Here we map the longitudinal proteome in 7,565 serum samples from a cohort of 3,796 middle-aged and elderly adults across three time points over a 9-year follow-up period. We pinpoint 86 ageing-related proteins that exhibit signatures associated with 32 clinical traits and the incidence of 14 major ageing-related chronic diseases.

The conformation of a series of zero-generation polyamidoamine dendrimers end-labeled with four 1-pyrene-butyroyl, -hexanoyl, -octanoyl, -decanoyl, and -dodecanoyl derivatives, referred to as the PyCX-PAMAM-G0 samples with = 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12, respectively, was characterized in ,-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and aqueous solutions of 50 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or 50 mM dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB). The conformation of the PyCX-PAMAM-G0 samples was determined from the global model-free analysis (MFA) of the fluorescence decays, which yielded the average rate constant (⟨⟩) for pyrene excimer formation (PEF) between an excited and a ground-state pyrenyl labels, with ⟨⟩ being proportional to the local concentration ([Py]) of the pyrenyl labels within the macromolecular volume; ⟨⟩-vs-[Py] plots yielded straight lines passing through the origin in DMF and DMSO, demonstrating that the internal segments of the dendrimers obeyed Gaussian statistics in these two solvents. In aqueous surfactant solutions, the hydrophobic pyrenyl labels induced the interactions of the PyCX-PAMAM-G0 dendrimers with the SDS and DTAB micelles.

Organ fibrosis, such as lung fibrosis and liver fibrosis, is a progressive and fatal disease. Fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) play an important role in the development and progression of fibrosis. Through scaffold hopping, bioisosteric replacement design, and structure-activity relationship optimization, we developed a series of highly potent FGFRs inhibitors, and the indazole-containing candidate compound A16 showed potent kinase activity comparable to that of AZD4547.

Metal halide scintillators serve as a compelling substitute for traditional scintillators in X-ray detection and imaging due to their low-temperature fabrication process, high light yield and mechanical flexibility. Nevertheless, the spatial resolution and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of these films are hindered by the agglomeration and uneven distribution of metal halides crystal particles during the fabrication process. We introduce a modified fabrication approach for metal halide scintillator films involving an additional step of ethyl acetate (EA) treatment, resulting in the preparation of a smooth EA-treated (Ph4P)2MnBr4/Polydimethylsiloxane film.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and irreversible lung disease, and developing an effective treatment remains a challenge. The limited therapeutic options are primarily delivered by the oral route, among which pirfenidone (PFD) improves pulmonary dysfunction and patient quality of life. However, its high dose and severe side effects (dyspepsia and systemic photosensitivity) limit its clinical value.

The increasing production of industrial solid waste requires better disposal solutions. Porous hollow microspheres (PHM) are small inorganic materials with high surface area and adsorption capacity, but their potential for use in anaerobic digestion (AD) has not been explored. With PHM as additive, the effects of different industrial solid wastes (waste glass, steel slag, and fly ash) with different loadings (2 %-8 %), respectively, on the AD of corn straw were investigated in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • Fibrosis is a health problem where tissues heal too much, often because of repeated injuries, leading to issues like organ failure and affecting people's lives.
  • While there are some drugs to treat lung fibrosis, like pirfenidone and nintedanib, there aren't any approved drugs for fibrosis in the liver, heart, or kidneys yet.
  • The research focuses on a specific protein called BRD4, which is involved in inflammation and fibrosis, and scientists believe that creating drugs that block BRD4 could help treat fibrosis in the future, though there are still challenges to overcome.

In eukaryotes, RNA N-methyladenosine (mA) modification and microRNA (miRNA)-mediated RNA silencing represent two critical epigenetic regulatory mechanisms. The mA methyltransferase complex (MTC) and the microprocessor complex both undergo liquid-liquid phase separation to form nuclear membraneless organelles. Although mA methyltransferase has been shown to positively regulate miRNA biogenesis, a mechanism of reciprocal regulation between the MTC and the microprocessor complex has remained elusive.
