Article Synopsis
  • HNF4α expression and SMARCA4 loss in lung adenocarcinomas were studied by analyzing 241 cases, leading to the classification of HNF4α-positive adenocarcinomas into variant and conventional non-mucinous groups based on their histological characteristics and mutation profiles.
  • The study identified distinct groups, with variant cases retaining SMARCA4 and being negative for TTF-1, while among conventional non-mucinous cases, the non-TRU-type group frequently exhibited loss of SMARCA4 and had poorer prognosis.
  • Overall, the findings suggested that HNF4α-positive adenocarcinomas can show different pathological features and survival outcomes,

The present study immunohistochemically investigated trimethylation of lysine 27 of histone 3 (H3K27me3) expression in 769 endometrial carcinomas and 196 uterine mesenchymal tumors. One dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma (DEC) and one carcinosarcoma showed H3K27me3 deficiency that was limited to undifferentiated and sarcomatous components, respectively. Switch/sucrose nonfermenting (SWI/SNF) complex subunits (SMARCA4, SMARCB1, and ARID1A/1B) and mismatch repair proteins were proficient in both tumors.

Introduction: Intraoperative periprosthetic fracture, one of the most frequent complications of total hip arthroplasty, is a very important factor that affects rehabilitation, hospitalization time, and cost of treatment. Osteoporosis is common in total hip arthroplasty patients and likely contributes to the increasing incidence of periprosthetic fracture. Despite this awareness, preoperative and postoperative osteoporosis evaluations remain insufficient.

Background: Intra-articular injection of C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) at the acute inflammatory stage suppressed fibrotic changes in the infrapatellar fat pad (IFP), articular cartilage degeneration, and persistent pain in a monoiodoacetic acid (MIA)-induced rat knee arthritis model. In this study, we administered CNP during the inflammation subsiding period to evaluate CNP effectiveness in knees with osteoarthritis (OA) pathology.

Methods: 20 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups.

Purpose: To investigate the biomechanics of the centralization augmentation using knotless soft anchors to a nonanatomical transtibial pull-out root repair in a porcine medial meniscus posterior root tear (MMPRT) model.

Methods: Porcine knee joints (N = 10) were used to perform one of the following procedures: (1) intact; (2) MMPRT; (3) nonanatomical root repair; (4) nonanatomical root repair with centralization using 2 anchors: anchors were inserted at the posterior medial collateral ligament (MCL) border and 10 mm anterior to the posterior MCL border; and (5) nonanatomical root repair with centralization using 3 anchors: another anchor was placed 10 mm posterior to the posterior MCL border. Contact area on the medial meniscus (MM), contact pressure in the MM and tibial cartilage, and MM extrusion were evaluated at 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° knee flexions under 200 N compressive force.

We previously proposed the classification of lung adenocarcinoma into two groups: the bronchial epithelial phenotype (BE phenotype) with high-level expressions of bronchial epithelial markers and actionable genetic abnormalities of tyrosine kinase receptors and the non-BE phenotype with low-level expressions of bronchial Bronchial epithelial (BE) epithelial markers and no actionable genetic abnormalities of tyrosine kinase receptors. Here, we performed a comprehensive analysis of tumor morphologies in 3D cultures and xenografts across a panel of lung cancer cell lines. First, we demonstrated that 40 lung cancer cell lines (23 BE and 17 non-BE) can be classified into three groups based on morphologies in 3D cultures on Matrigel: round (n = 31), stellate (n = 5), and grape-like (n = 4).

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis is prevalent among patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA), impacting surgery outcomes and implant survival rates; the study aimed to assess the prevalence and treatment of osteoporosis in these patients.
  • In a retrospective analysis of 398 hip joints, findings showed that 8.8% had hip osteoporosis and 4.5% had spinal osteoporosis, while only 22.1% received pharmacological treatment for the condition.
  • The study revealed that treated patients exhibited significantly lower levels of the biomarker TRACP-5b compared to untreated patients, suggesting effective treatment may reduce the risk of postoperative complications.

Introduction: Although recent advances in chemotherapy for lung cancer are remarkable, most clinical trials have excluded patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) due to the concern of developing acute exacerbation (AE) of ILD. Hence, accumulating original evidence of cancer treatment for this population is important.

Methods: Between 2016 and 2020, a prospective observational study was conducted across 11 Japanese hospitals.

Aims: The pathological diagnosis of undifferentiated and de-differentiated endometrial carcinomas (UC/DCs) is prognostically important. However, undifferentiated components may be confused with other subtypes, particularly grade 3 endometrioid carcinomas (G3ECs). Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) has recently been identified as a promising marker because it is frequently expressed in the undifferentiated components of UC/DCs, but not in other carcinomas.

Methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) is a rate-limiting enzyme in the methionine salvage pathway, which recycles one carbon unit that is lost during polyamine synthesis back into the methionine cycle. Although MTAP deficiency has been reported in various tumours, MTAP is overexpressed and might promote oncogenesis in other cancers, including prostate and colon cancer. Currently, little is known about the MTAP status of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Rationale: Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a rare and highly aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis. SDC demonstrates a potential for invasive growth with early regional and distant metastasis to organs, such as bone, lung, liver, and brain. Because, adrenal gland metastasis from SDC is rare, its treatment options are not well established.
