Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effects of superior (SI) and temporal (TI) clear corneal incisions on corneal higher order aberrations (HOAs) in patients undergoing cataract surgery with healthy corneas and mild astigmatism.
  • 102 eyes were analyzed, with measurements taken before and 6 weeks after surgery, revealing significant changes in HOAs only in the SI group, particularly vertical and horizontal coma.
  • The findings suggest that while SI can alter corneal HOAs and potentially impact vision quality post-surgery, TI may offer advantages by not producing significant changes.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the Eyecryl toric phakic IOL (pIOL) for patients with moderate-to-high myopic astigmatism, focusing on visual and refractive outcomes over three years.
  • The research included 52 eyes from 28 patients, showing a significant improvement in visual acuity and reduction in astigmatism, with 70% of eyes achieving better vision versus preoperative levels.
  • The findings indicate that the Eyecryl toric pIOL is effective and safe, though some patients experienced minor complications, such as cell loss and opacification issues.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze the changes in the effective optical zones (EOZ) using topographic techniques on the tangential curvature difference map at post-operative 1-year following transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK) and to identify parameters linked to the EOZ alterations.

Methods: The study comprised 55 eyes of 55 myopic patients who underwent T-PRK. EOZs were measured using the tangential curvature difference map of the Scheimpflug tomography system.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to analyse the role of prognostic factors on the risk of recurrence and overall survival of patients with uterine adenosarcoma.

Methods: A retrospective international multicentre study involving 46 centres collected 32 cases of uterine adenosarcoma, and these cases were included in the present subanalysis. Clinical and demographic features and tumour characteristics were gathered, as well as information on treatment and relapse.

Purpose: To compare the effective optical zones (EOZs) of small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (F-LASIK) by utilizing topographic methods on the tangential curvature difference map at postoperative 1 year and to identify parameters linked to the EOZ alterations following both surgeries.

Methods: Myopic patients who underwent SMILE or F-LASIK were included in the study. Patients with refractive error greater than -9.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to illustrate the changes in ocular findings, meibography, and tear break-up time (TBUT) values in pediatric patients with ocular rosacea following a standardized treatment.

Methods: The study included consecutive patients diagnosed with ocular rosacea, referred to a tertiary hospital between 2021 and 2023. Each patient underwent biomicroscopic examinations, non-invasive TBUT assessments, corneal fluorescein staining (evaluated using the Oxford scoring system), and meibography.

Childhood trauma is a serious form of stress that makes individuals more vulnerable to developing Schizophrenia (SCZ). Many studies have predicted the association between the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene Val158Met variant and aggressive attack. We aimed to investigate the association the COMT variant and childhood trauma on aggression in Turkish SCZ patientsThis study included 89 patients diagnosed with SCZ.

Since its introduction, schizoaffective disorder (SAD) has been one of the most controversial diagnoses in psychiatry, both clinically and nosologically. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), SAD diagnostic criteria were changed, and instead of a cross-sectional diagnosis, a longitudinal approach covering the life course of the illness was adopted. In this study, the meaning of this conceptual shift in the diagnosis of SAD in clinical practice is investigated throughout the course of the illness for patients with SAD.

Objectives: To analyze the impact of perioperative characteristics on the risk of recurrence in patients with uterine leiomyosarcomas.

Methods: A sub-analysis of the SARComa of the UTerus (SARCUT) study, which is a multicentric cross-sectional pan-European study that included 390 patients diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, between 2001 and 2007. Perioperative factors related to risk of recurrence and survival were analyzed.

Background: High-complexity and low-prevalence procedures benefit from treatment by referral centers. The volume of cases necessary to maintain high training in the treatment of gynecologic sarcoma is currently unknown. This study aimed to determine differences in survival and recurrence as a function of the volume of patients treated per center.

Article Synopsis
  • Prolonged grief disorder (PGD) has become more recognized, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, with a study showing a 44.1% prevalence among outpatient psychiatric patients who lost a first-degree relative in the last 12-24 months.
  • The study found no differences in PGD rates based on whether the death was due to Covid-19 or other causes; however, it was linked to factors like the bereaved person's age, age of the deceased, and relationship closeness.
  • Patients with PGD exhibited higher levels of depression, insomnia, and anxious attachment, with unexpected deaths being a significant predictor of developing PGD, highlighting the need for clinicians to be vigilant in monitoring and treating this disorder.
