Background and Objective: Betta fish is one of the most popular ornamental fish because of their attractive body shape, especially for males. The fish development usually results in a similar number of males and females or an even higher number of females. This study aimed to determine the effect of various concentrations of honey and the age of larvae on the sex ratio of Betta fish.

In the post-pandemic era, evaluating long-term immunity against COVID-19 has become increasingly critical, particularly in light of continuous SARS-CoV-2 mutations. This study aimed to assess the long-term humoral immune response in sera collected in Makassar. We measured anti-RBD IgG levels and neutralization capacity (NC) against both the Wild-Type (WT) Wuhan-Hu and Omicron XBB.

Kilishi (KL) was prepared from sundried strips of Biceps femoris and marinated with either 2 % Sodium chloride (NaCl) + 7 % fresh Capsicum chinense (CC) (KL-1), 1 % NaCl + 1 % Potassium chloride (KCl) + 7 % CC (KL-2), 1 % NaCl + 1 % Potassium citrate (CHKO) + 7 % CC (KL-3), 1 % NaCl + 14 % CC (KL-4), 1 % KCl + 14 % CC (KL-5) or 1 % CHKO + 14 % CC (KL-6), and stored at 29 ± 1 °C for 90 d. The partial or total replacement of NaCl lowered (P < 0.

Background: Asian New York City residents have the lowest cancer screening uptake across race and ethnicity. Few studies have examined screening differences across Asian ethnic subgroups in New York City.
Methods: Cross-sectional survey data were analyzed using multivariable logistic and multinomial regression analyses.
One approach to addressing bone defects involves the field of bone tissue engineering, with scaffolds playing an important role. The properties of the scaffold must be similar to those of natural bone, including pore size, porosity, interconnectivity, mechanical attributes, degradation rate, non-toxicity, non-immunogenicity, and biocompatibility. The primary goals of this study are as follows: first, to evaluate hydroxyapatite (HA)/polycaprolactone (PCL)/gelatin nanofiber scaffolds based on functional groups, fibre diameter, porosity, and degradation rate; second, to investigate the interaction between HA/PCL/gelatin scaffolds and osteoblast cells (specifically, the ATCC 7F2 cell line) using assays, including cell viability and adhesion levels.

Methods: A retrospective international multicentre study involving 46 centres collected 32 cases of uterine adenosarcoma, and these cases were included in the present subanalysis. Clinical and demographic features and tumour characteristics were gathered, as well as information on treatment and relapse.
Acute diverticulitis of the appendix (ADA), though uncommon, often presents similarly to acute appendicitis but carries a higher risk of complications such as perforation and malignancy. We report the case of a male patient in his 50s with acute right iliac fossa abdominal pain, diagnosed via CT scan with ADA. Urgent laparoscopic appendicectomy was performed, and the patient was discharged without further issues.

In this work, a nanofiber scaffold membrane of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/chitosan (CS) combined with hydroxyapatite (HAp) from sand lobster (SL; ) shells, as a calcium source, was successfully synthesized to mimic the nanoscale extracellular matrix (ECM) in the native bone. The HAp from SL shells was synthesized by co-precipitation method with Ca/P of 1.

In this study, we designed polycaprolactone (PCL)/polylactic--glycolate acid (PLGA) nanofibers doped with carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA) and egg white (EW) with enhanced properties. The addition of CHA and EW significantly influenced the properties and morphology of PCL/PLGA nanofibers; whereby the CHA substitution (PCL/PLGA/CHA) greatly increased the mechanical properties related to the Young's modulus and EW doping (PCL/PLGA/CHA/EW) increased the elongation at break.

In this study, carbonate-substituted hydroxyapatite (C-HAp) nanorods were synthesised using a dissolution-precipitation reaction on hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanorods based on long-spined sea urchin () shells. From the EDS analysis, the Ca/P molar ratio of C-HAp was 1.705, which was very close to the Ca/P of natural bone apatite of 1.

We conducted interviews with CA adults to understand their eating and shopping behaviors, interests in CSAs, and recommendations for educational content to inform the development of a subsidized and culturally adapted CSA. We then conducted thematic analysis of those interviews and identified major themes.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) use risk adjustment variables to determine quality measure scores.
Methods: Among patients in a large public system, surgical risk variables were compared between patients with and without SSIs.

The hydroxyapatite (HAp; Ca (PO ) (OH) )) has good biocompatibility, bioactivity, and osteoconductivity as a bone implant because the main inorganic mineral of human bone is HAp. The use of scaffold HAp from biogenic resources that contain high calcium and polymer as a pore forming agent to support bone growth is a longstanding area of interest. In this study, porous scaffolds based on HAp were synthesized from sand lobster (SL; Panulirus homarus) shells as a source of calcium using the porogen leaching method with polyethylene oxide (PEO) and chitosan (Chs) as polymeric porogen.

The retina of little skate () is a rarity among vertebrates because it contains only a single photoreceptor cell type and is thus "simplex." This unique retina provides us with an important comparative model and an exciting opportunity to study retinal circuitry within the context of a visual system with a single photoreceptor cell type.

Methods: A prospective cohort was undergone to collect sera from unvaccinated survivors and vaccinated persons-with and without COVID-19 pre-infection.
Background: Indonesia is home to many species of non-human primates (NHPs). Deforestation, which is still ongoing in Indonesia, has substantially reduced the habitat of NHPs in the republic. This has led to an intensification of interactions between NHPs and humans, which opens up the possibility of pathogen spillover.
