Case series of Li-Fraumeni syndrome: carcinogenic mechanisms in breast cancer with TP53 pathogenic variant carriers.

Background: Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), a hereditary condition attributed to TP53 pathogenic variants,(PV), is associated with high risks for various malignant tumors, including breast cancer. Notably, individuals harboring TP53 PVs are more likely (67-83%) to develop HER2 + breast cancer than noncarriers (16-25%). In this retrospective study, we evaluated the associations between TP53 variants and breast cancer phenotype.

To determine the impact of the coverage of risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) and mastectomy (RRM) as well as genetic testing for BRCA pathogenic variants by the national insurance system in Japan. We compared the clinical background of women who underwent RRSO at our institution before and after its coverage by the national insurance system. Those who underwent RRSO between January 2017 and December 2019 and between April 2020 and March 2022 were classified as Period.

[Effects of Olaparib, a PARP-1 Inhibitor, on Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells with a BRCA1 Mutation].

In 2018, olaparib, a PARP inhibitor, was approved for the treatment of BRCA1/2 gene-mutation positive and HER2-negative inoperable and recurrent breast cancer; BRCA1/2 gene testing was also listed as a companion diagnostics. Here, we identified microRNAs(miRNAs) expressed after treatment with olaparib, which differed in the presence or absence of BRCA1 mutations in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC), and examined the changes in miRNAs after exposure to the combination of the PARP-1 inhibitor and a chemotherapeutic agent. After exposure to the PARP-1 inhibitor, the expression of miR-141, miR-155, miR-205, and miR-223 decreased in MDA-MB-231, HCC1143, and BT549 cells and increased more than 10 times in MDA-MB-436 cells.

Skin grafting utilizing a skin of lateral thoracic area for chest wall reconstruction in patient who underwent mastectomy for locally advanced breast cancer.

Locally advanced breast cancer sometimes results in a large chest wall defect at mastectomy. When closing the wound horizontally, the skin tension is usually severe in the middle of the wound, while the skin of the lateral area tends to make a dog-ear deformity. Triangle technique is a procedure to prevent the dog ear in which the skin and subcutaneous fat of the axilla are cut into an equilateral triangle.

Postoperative portal vein thrombosis and gastric hemorrhage associated with late-onset hemorrhage from the common hepatic artery after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare but serious postoperative complication of pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). We reported a case of late-onset postoperative PVT with hemorrhage from the common hepatic artery (CHA) in a 73-year-old man who underwent pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) for duodenum papilla cancer, followed by reconstruction using the modified Child's technique. The pancreaticojejunostomy was achieved by end-to-side, 2-layer invagination anastomosis without pancreatic duct stenting.

Laparoscopic resection of an intra-abdominal esophageal duplication cyst: a case report and literature review.

Duplication of the alimentary tract is a rare congenital malformation that occurs most often in the abdominal region, whereas esophageal duplication cyst develops typically in the thoracic region but occasionally in the neck and abdominal regions. Esophageal duplication cyst is usually diagnosed in early childhood because of symptoms related to bleeding, infection, and displacement of tissue surrounding the lesion. We recently encountered a rare adult case of esophageal duplication cyst in the abdominal esophagus.
