There are several forms of pulmonary hypertension that can be considered unusual not solely due to their prevalence but also due to their geographic distribution. The aim of this review is to highlight some of these forms, most of them classified within group 5 of the current pulmonary hypertension classification. This review also discusses on schistosomiasis-associated pulmonary hypertension, a prevalent form of pulmonary hypertension mostly limited to developing countries.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive neoplasm that originates from hyperplasia and metaplasia of the mesothelial cells that cover the pleural cavity. Previous exposure to asbestos is the main risk factor. Since MPM is often diagnosed at an advanced stage with rapid evolution and resistance to treatment, it is associated with an unfavorable outcome.

Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) is a renal disease with an extensive differential diagnosis. This paper reports the case of a 55-year-old female patient diagnosed with Hansen's disease with acute progressive renal impairment after developing lower limb pyoderma. The association between Hansen's and kidney disease has been well documented, with glomerulonephritis (GN) ranked as the most common form of renal involvement.
