The communication between neurons and, in some cases, between neurons and non-neuronal cells, through neurotransmission plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes. Despite its importance, the neuromodulatory transmission in most tissues and organs remains poorly understood due to the limitations of current tools for direct measurement of neuromodulatory transmitters. In order to study the functional roles of neuromodulatory transmitters in animal behaviors and brain disorders, new fluorescent sensors based on bacterial periplasmic binding proteins (PBPs) and G-protein coupled receptors have been developed, but their results have not been compared to or multiplexed with traditional methods such as electrophysiological recordings.

Purpose: To develop a potential quadriceps' index of complication evaluation for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is simple, convenient, and quantifiable.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a prospective study of 59 patients with COPD and 56 healthy controls recruited by the Chengdu First People's Hospital. Grayscale ultrasound (US) of the rectus femoris was performed to measure thickness (RF) and cross-sectional area (RF).

Objective: To explore the effect of autoimmune cell therapy on immune cells in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to provide a reference for clinical treatment of COPD.

Methods: Sixty patients with stable COPD were randomly divided into control group and treatment group ( = 30). The control group was given conventional treatment, and the treatment group was given one autoimmune cell therapy on the basis of conventional treatment.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have recently been described as key regulators in the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and this study aimed to investigate the functional role of circMAT2B in NSCLC. CircMAT2B expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines was investigated using RT-qPCR analysis. A series of functional experiments, including MTT assay, colony formation assay, wound healing assay and transwell assay, were carried out to investigate the effects of circMAT2B knockdown/overexpression on the malignant traits of NSCLC cells.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been uncovered to be essential regulators in the biological processes of human cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Recently, small nucleolar RNA host gene 17 (SNHG17) has been identified as one novel oncogenic lncRNA in gastric cancer. However, it remains unclear whether SNHG7 exert functions in LUAD progression.

Purpose: LINC00680 was reported to be involved in various cancers through multiple mechanisms. Therefore, we intended to investigate its role in the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Materials And Methods: Firstly, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to test LINC00680 in NSCLC tissue and cell lines.

Objective: To assess the association between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) comorbidities and clinical characteristics, and to explore the inflammation mechanism.

Methods: 220 stable COPD patients were included. Clinical characteristics and comorbidities were recorded, and blood samples were collected.

In the inner ear sensory epithelia, stereociliary hair bundles atop sensory hair cells are mechanosensory apparatus with planar polarized structure and orientation. This is established during development by the concerted action of tissue-level, intercellular planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling and a hair cell-intrinsic, microtubule-mediated machinery. However, how various polarity signals are integrated during hair bundle morphogenesis is poorly understood.

Hippocampal synaptic plasticity is modulated by neuropeptides, the disruption of which might contribute to cognitive deficits observed in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)-derived neuropeptides and melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) are implicated in hippocampus-dependent synaptic plasticity, how the POMC/MC4R system functions in the hippocampus and its role in synaptic dysfunction in AD are largely unknown. Here, we mapped a functional POMC circuit in the mouse hippocampus, wherein POMC neurons in the cornu ammonis 3 (CA3) activate MC4R in the CA1.

Fluorouracil (5-FU) has been wildly used as a primary medication in the treatment of solid tumors including colorectal cancer. The treatment efficacy and toxicity of 5-FU varies greatly among individuals, suggesting a need for individualized regimen for cancer patients. The present study analyzed the blood concentration of 5-FU and its therapeutic efficacy and toxicity, evaluated the relationship of AUC (area under the plasma concentration-time curve), and the protein expression of DPD (dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase) and TS (thymidylate synthetase), and therapeutic efficacy and toxicity.

Objective: To explore the effect of Tanreqing Injection (TRQI) on the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) with Chinese medicine syndrome of retention of phlegm and heat in Fei (RPHF).

Methods: In a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial, 90 patients with AECOPD of RPHF syndrome were randomly assigned to 3 groups, TRQI and controls A and B, each with 30 cases. The TRQI group was administered with the intravenous injections of 20 mL TRQI once a day and conventional Western medicine treatment.
