Emerging studies demonstrate that exposure to brominated flame retardants (BFRs) can have harmful effects on human health. Our study focused on the relationship between exposure to various BFRs and markers of liver function. To further explore the association between BFR exposure and liver function impairment, we used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) for three cycles from 2009 to 2014, leaving 4206 participants (≥20 years of age) after screening.

Decoupling economic growth and carbon emissions is essential to a sustainable high-quality development. As a small unit of the engine of development, more research has begun to focus on city-level issues. In order to fill the gaps in the decoupling research at the city level covering the whole nationwide, this paper applied the bottom-up method to calculate 282 cities' carbon emissions according to China's city-level panel data of terminal energy consumption, and combined Tapio decoupling with LMDI decomposition model to analyze cities' decoupling status and its driving factors.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has great potential and advantages in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Wutou decoction (WTD) was first recorded as a pill in the TCM classical book Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber written by Zhang Zhongjing in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 CE). It has significant therapeutic effects in delaying and reversing RA while improving patients' clinical symptoms, making it the best example of TCM treatment for RA.

Food allergies manifest as systemic or digestive allergic responses induced by food allergens, and their progression has been demonstrated to be intimately associated with the host's gut microbiota. Our preceding investigation has revealed that the probiotic strains CCFM1189 and CCFM1190 possess the capability to mitigate the symptoms of food allergy in mice. However, the underlying mechanisms and material foundations through which these probiotic strains exert their effects remain enigmatic.

We report a case and follow-up of an adult male with intracranial yolk sac tumor (YST). Initially, the patient presented with abnormal high signals in the right basal ganglia on MRI, misdiagnosed as a cavernous hemangioma. However, within 2 years, the condition rapidly progressed into a large, hypervascular solid neoplasm leading to a basal ganglia hemorrhage.

Homeobox transcription factor Engrailed1 (En1) is expressed in the ectoderm and mediates the establishment of retinotectal topography, but its role in eye-specific retinogeniculate segregation and visual function remains unclear. Parvalbumin (PV) neurons, which are widely distributed in the visual pathway, play a crucial role in visual development and function. In this study, we conditionally knocked out En1 gene in PV neurons and found an expansion of the ipsilateral eye projection, while no significant effects were observed in the contralateral eye projection.

Gastric cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers globally due to delayed detection and limited treatment options, underscoring the critical need for innovative prognostic methods. Disulfidptosis, a recently discovered programmed cell death triggered by disulphide stress, presents a fresh avenue for therapeutic exploration. This research examines disulfidptosis-related long noncoding RNAs (DRLs) in gastric cancer, with the goal of leveraging these lncRNAs as potential markers to enhance patient outcomes and treatment approaches.

To compare the efficacy and safety of gecacitinib (also known as jaktinib) with hydroxyurea (HU) in treating myelofibrosis (MF) patients. In this multicenter, randomized phase 3 trial (ZGJAK016), intermediate- or high-risk primarily JAK inhibitor naïve MF patients were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive either gecacitinib (100 mg twice a day, BID) or HU (500 mg BID). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with ≥35% reduction in spleen volume (SVR35) from baseline at week 24.

It has been confirmed that exposure to various metal pollutants can induce neurotoxicity, which is closely associated with the occurrence and development of neurological disorders. Ferroptosis is a form of cell death in response to metal pollutant exposure and it is closely related to oxidative stress, iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation. Recent studies have revealed that ferroptosis plays a significant role in the neurotoxicity induced by metals such as lead, cadmium, manganese, nickel, and antimony.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the therapeutic reference range of lurasidone, and to analyze the factors influencing the dose-corrected concentration of lurasidone in Chinese psychiatric patients, thereby providing a basis for the development of individualized dosing of lurasidone.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted for hospitalized patients who had received lurasidone and undergone blood concentration monitoring from May 2022 to September 2023 at the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Analyses were based on patient demographic data, treatment regimens, and administered drug concentrations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how plasma metabolites are linked to the progression of chronic kidney disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes, focusing on kidney function decline measured by eGFR slope.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 5,000 people, identifying specific elevated levels of lipids and amino acids that influence kidney function, both positively and negatively.
  • The findings suggest that metabolite abnormalities, particularly related to fatty acids, may indicate issues with fat breakdown and are connected to the risk of worsening kidney health in diabetic patients.

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) encompasses damage to nerves located outside the central nervous system, adversely affecting both motor and sensory functions. Although peripheral nerves possess an intrinsic capacity for self-repair, severe injuries frequently result in significant tissue loss and erroneous axonal junctions, thereby impeding complete recovery and potentially causing neuropathic pain. Various therapeutic strategies, including surgical interventions, biomaterials, and pharmacological agents, have been developed to enhance nerve repair processes.

Ependymal cells (EpCs), as a potential stem cell niche, have gained interest for their potential in vivo stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury (SCI). Heterogeneity of spinal EpCs may contribute to differences in the ability of spinal EpCs to proliferate, differentiate and transition after injury, while there is limited understanding of the regulation of these events. Our research found that ezrin (Ezr) was expressed highly in EpCs of the spinal cord, and its upregulation rapidly occurred after injury (6 h).

To overcome the worldwide environmental crisis related to the continuous emission of CO, the use of porous organic polymers, which are excellent absorbents and conversion materials, to reduce CO emission is of great significance. Among them, hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCPs) are porous materials with a high pore density that are synthesized using a simple one-pot method that is economical and can realized at a low temperature, hence they have good application prospects as adsorbents for CO. In this study, a batch of petroleum coke-based HCPs with different sulfur contents was prepared via the one-pot Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction using inexpensive and abundant petroleum coke as raw material.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of miR-101-3p in the proliferation of orbital fibroblasts in thyroid eye disease (TED) and seeks to identify its targets, particularly focusing on pentraxin-3 (PTX3).
  • - Research methods involved harvesting orbital adipose tissues from TED patients and control subjects, followed by various assays to assess fibroblast proliferation and apoptosis after manipulating miR-101-3p levels.
  • - Results showed that miR-101-3p is downregulated in TED, and its overexpression inhibits fibroblast proliferation by targeting PTX3, enhancing understanding of TED's pathological mechanisms.

Ocean oil spills pose a severe threat to the marine environment. This research addresses the significant challenge of detecting low-contrast oil spills on the sea surface, a problem exacerbated by the presence of specular reflections from sunlight in visible light images and thermal noise in infrared images. A novel environment-adaptive dual-light image enhancement framework is proposed for marine oil spill detection.
