Defect-rich nitrogen-doped biocatalyst (B-NC) was synthesized from natural cellulose of wheat straw using straightforward mechanical method and one-step pyrolysis approach. In contrast to the nitrogen-doped biocatalyst (NC), by leveraging the synergistic effects of nitrogen dopants and surface defects, the microenvironment-modulated B-NC exhibited the enhanced mass transfer efficiency and a significant improvement in reactivity for p-nitrophenol degradation (111 %-196 %). The catalyst's exceptional performance primarily arose from graphitic N, pyridinic N and CO active sites, which mainly derived from the cellulose structure of wheat straw and nitrogen dopants.

A practical base-promoted tandem condensation -alkylation reaction for the formation of trisubstituted hydrazones has been developed employing aldehydes and hydrazines with alkyl halides. Crucially, this reaction successfully overcomes chemoselectivity problems, allowing for the reaction of multiple components in a one-pot manner. Halo- and heterofunctional groups, as well as free hydroxyl and amino groups, are tolerated in this transformation to produce a wide range of trisubstituted hydrazones in good to excellent yields.

A new asymmetric ligand, 5-{3-[5-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]phenyl}-2-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L5), which contains two oxadiazole rings, was synthesized and characterized. The assembly of symmetric 2,5-bis(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L1) and asymmetric L5 with AgCOCF in solution yielded two novel Ag complexes, namely catena-poly[[di-μ-trifluoroacetato-disilver(I)]-bis[μ-2,5-bis(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole]], [Ag(CFO)(CHNO)] or [Ag(μ-OCCF)(L1)] (1), and bis(μ-5-{3-[5-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]phenyl}-2-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole)tetra-μ-trifluoroacetato-tetrasilver(I) dichloromethane monosolvate, [Ag(CFO)(CHNO)]·CHCl or [Ag(μ-OCCF)(L5)]·CHCl (2). Complex 1 displays a one-dimensional ring-chain motif, where dinuclear Ag(CFCO) units alternate with Ag(L1) macrocycles.
