Development of green packaging materials is essential to replace traditional plastics in fresh agricultural products preservation. Herein, a coated paper was designed by applying chitosan-based composite coating on paper substrate through a facile automatic coating method. The hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan (HACC) was obtained by direct quaternization via the introduction of hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride into the amino group of chitosan, then mixed with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to prepare the HACC/PVA coating.

Article Synopsis
  • Hydrophobic coatings are useful in food packaging but struggle with adhesion and durability, prompting the need for better alternatives.
  • Researchers developed carnauba wax-SiO microspheres to create a new composite polyethylene film that is more wear-resistant and hydrophobic.
  • The new film improves water contact angles and mechanical properties, effectively extending the shelf life of Chaoshan fried shrimp rolls by 3 days compared to standard polyethylene packaging.

A new class of TiO-doped CeO nanorods was synthesized via a modified hydrothermal method, and these nanorods were first used as catalysts for the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO and CHOH in a fixed-bed reactor. The micromorphologies and physical-chemical properties of nanorods were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, N adsorption, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia and carbon dioxide (NH-TPD and CO-TPD). The effects of the TiO doping ratio on the catalytic performances were fully investigated.
