Friction at sliding interfaces, even in the atomistically smooth limit, can proceed through many energy dissipation channels, such as phononic and electronic excitation. These processes are often entangled and difficult to distinguish, eliminate, and control, especially in the presence of wear. Structural superlubricity (SSL) is a wear-free state with ultralow friction that closes most of the dissipation channels, except for electronic friction, which raises a critical concern of how to effectively eliminate and control such a channel.

Rationale: As the core of cardiac rehabilitation (CR), early exercise rehabilitation is beneficial for patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), and center-based CR with target intensity is superior to home-based CR. However, there was no research to observe the effects of exercise rehabilitation on cardiopulmonary exercise capacity, oxygen uptake efficiency slope, endothelial function evaluated as flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), and blood plasma lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) in CHD patients undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for 3 months.

Patient Concerns: A 57-year-old woman had been identified with triple vessel disease and undergone twice PCI for complete revascularization, however, there was no improvement in Lp-PLA2, FMD, and related indicators of cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

This study was aimed to determine the association between potential plasma lipid biomarkers and early screening and prognosis of Acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In the present study, a total of 795 differentially expressed lipid metabolites were detected based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). Out of these metabolites, 25 lipid metabolites were identified which showed specifical expression in the AMI group compared with the healthy control (HC) group and unstable angina (UA) group.

In this study, we investigated the combined use of cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells and cyclosporine A (CsA) to treat a mouse model of aplastic anemia (AA). CIK cells were cultured and injected alone or in combination with CsA into mice that had previously been induced into AA by busulfan and mouse interferon-γ (IFN-γ). The CIK cell-treated group had a survival rate of 55%, which was similar to the 60% survival rate observed in the CsA-treated group.

Previous studies reported that estrogen receptor β (ERβ) is localized to mitochondria, whereas little is known about the physiological functions of mitochondrial ERβ. In the present study, we explored the role of mitochondrial ERβ in regulating apoptosis using stable ERβ-expressing and ERβ knockdown cells lines. We found that exogenous ERβ was mainly expressed in mitochondrial but not in nuclear after ERβ overexpression and protected cells from apoptosis induced by hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), ultraviolet (UV), and staurosporine (STS).

To investigate the effect of valproate treatment on the K562 cell line, a model for chronic myelogenous leukaemia, the growth and survival of the K562 cell line were investigated using the Annexin-V/PI dual staining method, and global profiles of gene expression and alternative splicing in K562 cells were assessed using exon microarrays. A significant increase in cell apoptosis was observed in valproate-exposed K562 cells using flow cytometry. A total of 628 transcripts were identified as being significantly differentially expressed.
