Kidney stones, a prevalent urological disorder, are closely associated with oxidative stress (OS) and the inflammatory response. Recent research in the field of kidney stone treatment has indicated the potential of natural active ingredients to modulate OS targets and the inflammatory response in kidney stones. Oxidative stress can occur through various pathways, increasing the risk of stone formation, while the inflammatory response generated during kidney stone formation further exacerbates OS, forming a detrimental cycle.

Through a mixed-ligand strategy, the structural change from a discrete dinuclear Dy cluster to a one-dimensional polymeric chain was achieved, maintaining the two magnetic entities with the same {Dy(dppbO)(HO)} (dppbO = 1,4-butylenebis(diphenylphosphine oxide)) core structure. Since the hydrogen bonding between the equatorial coordinated water molecules and the guests/solvents/anions is distinct, the local geometry and the equatorial planarity of the first coordination sphere of the central Dy ion become slightly different caused by the second coordination sphere. As a result, the dinuclear compound shows typical butterfly-shaped hysteresis loops, while it significantly opens at zero magnetic field up to 11 K for the 1D polymer, which is unprecedented in coordination polymers.

When the temperature during bone drilling exceeds the safety threshold, the bone tissue surrounding the drilling site can be irreversibly damaged. To investigate the influence of vibration-assisted drilling (VAD) methods on the temperature increase during bone drilling and the causes for temperature increase, drilling experiments were performed on fresh bovine femur samples. The morphology and granularity distribution of the generated bone chips were innovatively used to directly compare the machining processes and thermal conditions of conventional drilling (CD), low-frequency vibration-assisted drilling (LFVAD), and ultrasonic vibration-assisted drilling (UVAD).

Coordination and supramolecular assemblies of a fully substituted cyclopentanocucurbit[6]uril (CyPQ[6]) with a series of lanthanide cations (Ln) have been investigated in the presence of tetrachlorozincate anion ([ZnCl]). X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis has revealed that the interaction of CyPQ[6] and a series of Lncations unexpectedly results in the formation of at least seven different CyPQ[6]-based coordination complex adduct and supramolecular assemblies groups, including with (1) La, Cecations; (2) Pr, Ndcations; (3) Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy with P1̅ or P1 space group, in which CyPQ[6] molecules coordinate alternatively with Lncations and form linear coordination polymers; (4) CyPQ[6] molecules interact alternatively with [Ho(HO)] aqueous complexes and form linear supramolecular chains; CyPQ[6] molecules can assemble two different Ln free porous supramolecular assemblies from CyPQ[6]-Ln(NO)-ZnCl-HCl systems, Ln = Tm, Yb, and Lu; however, no solid crystals were obtained from system containing Ercation. Thus, these differences could lead CyPQ[6] to be useful in not only the isolation of lighter lanthanides from their heavier lanthanides but also special selectivity for different volatile organic compounds.

The far infrared dental porcelain slurry for fabricating artificial tooth via selective slurry extrusion (SSE) of solid freeform fabrication (also known as rapid prototyping) techniques was prepared by using tourmaline as additive and employing ball-milling approach. After characterization by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, it was found that the far infrared emission properties of the dental porcelain were apparently improved in the ranges of 2000-1201 cm(-1) and 881-600 cm(-1). This is due to the increase of the number of infrared active bonds that are from the tourmaline superfine powders.
