A simple and inexpensive microwave measurement setup based on measurements of magnitudes of transmission properties ( ) is proposed for industrial-based microwave aquametry (moisture or water content) applications. An easy-to-apply calibration procedure based on normalization is implemented to eliminate systematic errors in the measurement system. As a case study, we applied this setup for the quantification of water-adulteration in flower honey.

Monitoring the water levels and volume changes of lakes and reservoirs enables us to understand the importance of better protection and managing water resources in an ecologically optimum manner. Although some lakes, such as Burdur Lake, are not a source of drinking water, they are home to many endangered animals, endemic plants, and some species. Therefore, monitoring the changes in these lakes over time is important for various reasons.

The cross-linked microbeads with average diameter of 106-300 μm, [poly(EGDMA-MATrp)], were obtained by copolymerization reaction of N-methacryloyl-L-(+)-tryptophan methyl ester (MATrp) with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and successfully applied as a heterogeneous catalyst in conjugate addition reaction of nitromethane to substituted 2-iminochromenes in aqueous media. A variety of 2-amino-4-(nitromethyl)-4-chromene-3-carbonitriles has been synthesized in good yields. Polymeric microbeads were very durable and reused 5 times without a significant loss of activity.

Microplastics (MPs) are an emerging pollutant that can be detected in all ecosystems, especially aquatic ecosystems. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important point sources of MP release into the sea. In this study, the characteristics of MPs in wastewater and sludge samples taken from different units of WWTP in Bursa-Gemlik district for 12 months were investigated.

A convenient protocol for the two component preparation of 1,3-benzoxazines by using several protected and unprotected carbohydrate molecules as organocatalysts have been developed which is broadly applicable to condensation reaction between variety of Mannich bases and paraformaldehyde. This study revealed that fructose have much higher catalytic activity than the other carbohydrates and can be an alternative to metal-containing catalysts as a green renewable organocatalyst for efficient and rapid construction of 1,3-benzoxazine skeleton. In this context, 21 benzoxazine compounds were successfully synthesized and spectral characterizations of these compounds were carried out by spectroscopic methods and elemental analysis.

The reaction of the two different substitue carbonyl oximes (isonitrosoacetylnaphthaline, inanH and nitro-isonitrosoacetophenone, ninapH) with two different amines (1-phenylethanol amine, pea, and ethanol amine, ea) was carried out and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, and (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopic methods. As a result of these experimental studies, two different levels for all reactions were determined: (I) formation of imine oxime and (II) rearrangement of imine oxime or formation of amido alcohol. After a mechanism was suggested for all of these reactions, the reaction mechanism of carbonyl oxime with amine was first studied by means of the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) method.

In this work, we report synthesis, crystallographic, spectroscopic and quantum chemical studies of a new imine oxime, namely (4-nitro-phenyl)-(1-phenyl-ethylimino)-acetaldehyde oxime (nppeieoH). Spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction studies showed that nppeieoH is hydrolyzed in aqueous solution, forming nitroisonitrosoacetophenone (ninap) and the hydrolysis product binds to Pd(II) to yield [Pd(nppeieo)(ninap)]. The mechanism of the hydrolysis reaction has been theoretically investigated in detail, using density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP method.

Four new cationic Pd(II) and Pt(II) 5,5-diethylbarbiturate (barb) complexes, [M(barb)(bpma)]X·H2O [M = Pd(II), X = Cl (1); M = Pt(II), X = NO3(-) (2)] and [M(barb)(terpy)]NO3·0.5H2O [M = Pd(II) (3); M = Pt(II) (4)], where bpma = bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine and terpy = terpyridine, were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV–vis, NMR, ESI-MS and X-ray crystallography. The DNA binding properties of the cationic complexes were investigated by spectroscopic titrations, displacement experiments, viscosity, DNA melting and electrophoresis measurements.

Novel palladium(ii) and platinum(ii) complexes of 5,5-diethylbarbiturate (barb) with 2-phenylpyridine (Hppy), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 2,2'-dipyridylamine (dpya) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, NMR and ESI-MS. Single-crystal diffraction measurements show that complex consists of binuclear [Pd2(μ-barb-κN,O)2(ppy-κN,C)2] moieties, while complexes are mononuclear, [M(barb-κN)2(L-κN,N')] (L = bpy or dpya). has a composition of [Pt(dpya-κN,N')2][Ag(barb-κN)2]2·4H2O and was assumed to have a structure of [Pt(barb-κN)(Hppy-κN)(ppy-κN,C)]·3H2O.

A new imineoxime compound {(1E,2E)-(2-hydroxy-ethylimino)-naphthalene-2yl-ethanal oxime (heineoH)} and its palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes ([M(heineo)2]) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, UV-vis, elemental analysis, mass spectra and X-ray single crystal diffraction. [Pt(heineo)2] was obtained as a single crystal, while [Pd(heineo)2] was synthesized as a polycrystalline powder. The X-ray diffraction analysis of the [Pt(heineo)2] indicated that the platinum(II) ion is coordinated by two heineo ligands in a distorted square-planar geometry.

A new palladium(II) complex, [Pd(ppeieo)(inap)]·DMSO (ppeieo=(1E,2E)-phenyl-[(1-phenylethyl)imino]-ethanal oxime and inap=isonitrosoacetophenone) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV-vis, IR, NMR. X-ray diffraction analysis of the DMSO solvate of the complex shows that the palladium(II) ion is coordinated in a distorted square-planar geometry by ppeieo and inap, which is formed during the hydrolysis of ppeieo. DFT (B3LYP/LANL2DZ) calculations on the complex have been carried out to correlate geometry and spectroscopic properties such as electronic, vibrational and NMR chemical shifts.

We apply a complete uncertainty analysis, not studied in the literature, to investigate the dependences of retrieved electromagnetic properties of two MM slabs (the first one with only split-ring resonators (SRRs) and the second with SRRs and a continuous wire) with single-band and dual-band resonating properties on the measured/simulated scattering parameters, the slab length, and the operating frequency. Such an analysis is necessary for the selection of a suitable retrieval method together with the correct examination of exotic properties of MM slabs especially in their resonance regions. For this analysis, a differential uncertainty model is developed to monitor minute changes in the dependent variables (electromagnetic properties of MM slabs) in functions of independent variables (scattering (S-) parameters, the slab length, and the operating frequency).

New palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes of saccharinate (sac) with 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole (pybim) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic techniques. From the experimental studies, these complexes were formulated as [Pd(pybim)(sac)2] (1), and [Pt(pybim)(sac)2]·4H2O (2). The ground-state geometries of both complexes were optimized using density functional theory (DFT) methods at the B3LYP level.
