In this study, panelists in rural Bangladesh ( = 150) assessed the sensory attributes of two cooked and uncooked dehulled red lentils: the control (unfortified lentils) and lentils fortified with eight vitamins and two minerals (multiple micronutrient fortified; MMF). The panelists evaluated the appearance, odor, and overall acceptability using a nine-point hedonic scale (1 = extremely dislike; 9 = extremely like). The taste and texture of the cooked lentils, prepared as South Asian lentil meals, were assessed.

Background: In many low-income countries, iron deficiency (ID) and its anemia (IDA) pose significant health challenges, particularly among females and girls. Finding sustainable and effective solutions to address this issue is critical.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of incorporating iron-fortified lentils (IFLs) into the diets of rural Bangladeshi adolescent girls on their body iron (Fe) status.

Background: The objective of the current study was to estimate the prevalence and associated factors of overweight/obesity among Bangladeshi adolescents aged 15-19 y and to identify whether wealth-related inequality exists for overweight/obesity among Bangladeshi older adolescents.

Methods: We analyzed publicly available national representative secondary data from the 2019-2020 Bangladesh Adolescent Health and Wellbeing Survey. This cross-sectional survey was carried out among 18 249 adolescents aged 15-19 y regardless of their marital status using a two-stage stratified sampling technique (the data of 9128 eligible adolescents were included in this analysis).

Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by and leads to serious complications if left untreated. Some strains of are multi-drug resistant and require treatment with newer drugs. Bedaquiline based treatment regimens have been used in patients who are diagnosed with drug resistant tuberculosis.

Background: Iron deficiency is highly prevalent in South Asia, especially among women and children in Bangladesh. Declines in cognitive performance are among the many functional consequences of iron deficiency.

Objective: We tested the hypothesis that, over the course of a 4-month iron fortification trial, cognitive performance would improve, and that improvement would be related to improvements in iron status.

Early detection, accurate monitoring, and therapeutics are major problems in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. We identified genomic copy number variation of a unique panel of 40 mitochondria-targeted genes in NSCLCs (GEOGSE #29365). Validation of mRNA expression of these molecules revealed an altered panel of 34 genes in lung adenocarcinomas (LUAD) and 36 genes in lung squamous cell carcinomas (LUSC).

Article Synopsis
  • * 93 healthcare providers studied showed a significant increase in SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels three months post-booster, rising from a median of 1.7 U/mL to 9540 U/mL.
  • * Findings suggest that the heterologous Moderna booster not only boosts antibody response but also results in mostly mild COVID-19 symptoms among those who contract the virus afterwards.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between cannabis use and psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) in Canadian emerging adults, focusing on whether anxiety symptoms mediate this association.
  • Data from 1,266 undergraduates showed that cannabis use frequency was linked to PLEs through anxiety, indicating that higher cannabis consumption correlated with increased anxiety, which in turn was connected to PLEs.
  • The analysis found that this mediation effect did not vary based on biological sex, suggesting that both male and female participants experienced similar patterns regarding cannabis use, anxiety, and PLEs.

This paper presents a noise propagation approach based on the Gaussian beam tracing (GBT) method that accounts for multiple reflections over three-dimensional terrain topology and atmospheric refraction due to horizontal and vertical variability in wind velocity. A semi-empirical formulation is derived to reduce truncation error in the beam summation for receivers on the terrain surfaces. The reliability of the present GBT approach is assessed with an acoustic solver based on the finite element method (FEM) solutions of the convected wave equation.

To examine the association between nutrient patterns (NP) and the risk of bladder cancer (BC) in the Iranian population, this Hospital-based case-control study was conducted with 306 participants (106 cases and 200 controls). The cases were newly diagnosed with BC (transitional cell carcinoma). Participants' past year's dietary intake was obtained via a valid 168-item Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ).

There has been a substantial and consistent rise in the number of clinical trials to develop advanced and potent bispecific antibodies (BsAb) over the past two decades with multiple targets to improve the efficacy or tissue specificity of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) treatment for diseases with multiple determining factors or widely-expressed targets. In this study, we designed and synthesized BsAb AGR2xPD1 targeting extracellular AGR2, a paracrine signal, and PD1, an immune checkpoint protein. Our design is intended to use AGR2 binding to guide PD1 targeting for AGR2cancer.

Workers with tuberculosis (TB) are often stigmatized, negatively impacting their socioeconomic position, mental health, and TB treatment outcomes. There is a dearth of validated tools to assess stigma in the worker population. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel, culturally adapted tool to measure TB-related stigma among workers in Indonesia.

Emerging adults with high levels of inhibited personality traits may be at-risk for drinking to cope during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current research explored mediational pathways between two inhibited personality traits (anxiety sensitivity (AS) and hopelessness (HOP)), internalizing symptoms (anxiety, depression, and COVID-19 distress), and coping drinking motives (drinking to cope with anxiety and drinking to cope with depression) during the pandemic. Cross-sectional data were collected from 879 undergraduate drinkers (79% female, 83% White, 18-25 years old) at five Canadian universities from January-April 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • Hemophilia A is caused by deficiencies in the blood clotting factor VIII (FVIII), impacting gene therapy strategies due to unstable mRNA and protein interactions.
  • A targeted mutation (P290T) in FVIII has been shown to improve its expression and activity, which was tested in mice lacking FVIII.
  • The P290T variant not only corrected bleeding symptoms in these mice but also showed no liver damage or toxicity, indicating its potential as a more effective treatment option for hemophilia A.

Despite being highly prevalent, adolescent mental health problems are undertreated. To better understand the mental health treatment gap, we assessed the prevalence and correlates of help-seeking, including perceived need for care and access to that care. Data were drawn from Young Minds Matter (YMM) survey-the second Australian child and adolescents survey of mental health and wellbeing.

The early initiation of breast-feeding (EIBF) within 1 h of birth, exclusive breast-feeding (EBF) to 6 months and continued breast-feeding (CBF) to 2 years are key infant and young child feeding guidelines promoted globally for optimal child health and development. Using publicly available national survey data from the five most recent, consecutive Bangladesh Demographic and Health Surveys (2004, 2007, 2011, 2014 and 2017-2018), we assessed the trends in these key breast-feeding indicators. Multiple multilevel logistic regression models were built to assess socio-demographic predictors of breast-feeding using the latest 2017-2018 data set.
