With the development of genetically modified crops, there has been a growing interest in available approaches to assess the potential allergenicity of novel gene products. We were not sure whether Cry1C could induce allergy. We examined the protein with three other proteins to determine the potential allergenicity of Cry1C protein from genetically modified rice.

Background: Viper snake venoms contain a great variety of toxic proteins. These components mediate their toxicity by either stimulating or inhibiting the haemostatic system of human victims or experimental animals, resulting in common clinical complications of blood clotting or uncontrolled haemorrhage. Therefore it is deemed important to isolate the active component(s) from snake venom with kallikrein-like activity.

Plantaricin L-1, an anti-Listeria bacteriocin, was produced by Lactobacillus plantarum and successfully purified by SP-Sepharose FF cation exchange chromatography. The mechanism on energized cells of Listeria monocytogenes was studied with purified plantaricin L-1. After adding plantaricin L-1 to Listeria monocytogenes at 64 AU/mL, leakage of intercellular K+ ions, inorganic phosphate, lactic dehydrogenase, UV-absorbing materials and the intracellular ATP was observed, and the action resulted in the dissipation of the membrane potential (delta psi) and pH gradient (delta psi), two components of the proton motive force (PMF).

A method has been developed for the determination of the contents of cis- and trans-resveratrols and piceids in wines by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with solid phase extraction (SPE). The techniques of SPE including the activation of the SPE column, elimination of interference and elution conditions of samples were confirmed. The analytes were separated by using a Hypersil C18 column (4.
