Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effects of high vs low concentrations of hyaluronic acid eye drops on dry eye syndromes (DES) through randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
  • A total of 10 RCTs with 1,796 participants were analyzed, revealing that high-concentration hyaluronic acid significantly improved corneal fluorescein staining scores, but other metrics like Schirmer's test and tear breakup time showed no significant differences.
  • The conclusion suggests that while high-concentration hyaluronic acid is beneficial for dry eyes with corneal staining, it doesn't provide substantial benefits in other dry eye conditions compared to lower concentrations.

Purpose: The main objective is to quantify the lens nuclear opacity using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and to evaluate its association with Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS-III) system, lens thickness (LT), and surgical parameters. The secondary objective is to assess the diagnostic model performance for hard nuclear cataract.

Methods: This study included 70 eyes of 57 adults with cataract, with 49 (70%) and 21 (30%) in training and validation cohort, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Uveal melanoma (UM) is a type of eye cancer that mostly affects adults, and researchers want to learn more about how DNA repair genes influence it.
  • In this study, scientists found 52 important DNA repair genes that could help predict how well UM patients will do.
  • They created a model using six specific genes that can tell if a patient is at high or low risk, and this model showed accurate results in predicting patient outcomes.

Corneal alkali burn, one of the most serious ophthalmic emergencies, is difficult to be cured by conservative treatments. It is well known that oxidative stress, inflammation and neovascularization are the main causes of corneal damage after alkali burn, but its underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Here, we reported that the expression and phosphorylation (Ser616) of mitochondrial fission protein Drp1 were up-regulated at day 3 after alkali burn, while mitochondrial fusion protein Mfn2 was down-regulated.

Orthokeratology (OK) is widely used to slow the progression of myopia. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) provides sufficient low energy to change the cellular function. This research is aimed at verifying the hypothesis that LLLT treatment could control myopia progression and comparing the abilities of OK lenses and LLLT to control the refractive error of myopia.

Aim: To determine the effect of different concentrations of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors tacrine and donepezil on retinal protection in AChE(+/-) mice (AChE knockout mice) of various ages.

Methods: Cultured ARPE-19 cells were treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at concentrations of 0, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 µmol/L and protein levels were measured using Western blot. Intraperitoneal injections of tacrine and donepezil (0.
