Article Synopsis
  • Soybean growth is negatively impacted by soil salinity, a type of abiotic stress, making it crucial to explore ways to enhance its resilience.
  • The study investigates the effects of Poly (acrylic) acid coated MnO (PMO) on soybean germination under salt stress, demonstrating that PMO treatment mitigated the negative impacts of 150 mM NaCl.
  • Results showed that PMO improved the antioxidant defense system, maintained ATP levels, and helped regulate reactive oxygen species, indicating its potential to enhance soybean tolerance to salt stress.

Global warming causes heat and drought stress in plants, which affects crop production. In addition to osmotic stress and protein inactivation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) overaccumulation under heat and drought stress is a secondary stress that further impairs plant performance. Chloroplasts, mitochondria, peroxisomes, and apoplasts are the main ROS generation sites in heat- and drought-stressed plants.
