Eight new bisindole alkaloids, melosuavines A-C (1-3), having an aspidosperma-scandine linkage, melosuavines D-F (4-6), possessing an aspidosperma-aspidosperma skeleton, and melosuavines G and H (7 and 8) of the aspidosperma-venalatonine type, tenuicausine (9), and melodinine J (10) were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Melodinus suaveolens. The structures of 1-8 were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods, and compounds 9 and 10 were identified by comparison with data in the literature. The relative configuration 9 was determined from the ROESY spectrum, and some NMR signals were reassigned.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) can be translocated into the targeted organs of organisms. We employed a model organism of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate the role of a biological barrier at the primary targeted organs in regulating the translocation and toxicity formation of MWCNTs. A prolonged exposure to MWCNTs at predicted environmental relevant concentrations caused adverse effects associated with both the primary and secondary targeted organs on nematodes.

We used Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate whether acute exposure to TiO2-NPs at the concentration of 20 μg L(-1) reflecting predicted environmental relevant concentration and 25 mg L(-1) reflecting concentration in food can cause toxicity on nematodes with mutations of susceptible genes. Among examined mutants associated with oxidative stress and stress response, we found that genes of sod-2, sod-3, mtl-2, and hsp-16.48 might be susceptible for TiO2-NPs toxicity.

Unlabelled: So far, we still know little about mechanism for recovery response of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs). Here we used Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate recovery responses of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) exposed animals and the underlying mechanism. After acute exposure to TiO2-NPs (100mg/L), endpoints including defecation and permeable state of intestinal barrier of exposed nematodes returned to control levels; however, after prolonged exposure to TiO2-NPs (100μg/L), endpoints of exposed nematodes could not be recovered to control levels under the normal condition.

Gegen is one of the most commonly used traditional Chinese medicines for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. Puerarin and daidzin are the main active constituents of Gegen. Puerarin is mainly metabolized in rats by glucuronidation and the major metabolite from rat urine has been identified as puerarin-7-O-glucuronide through semi-preparative HPLC isolation and then spectroscopic analysis.

A novel amphiphilic copolymer, folate-poly(PEG-cyanoacrylate-co-cholesteryl cyanoacrylate) (FA-PEG-PCHL) was synthesized to modify docetaxel-loaded nanostructured lipid carrier to lead to a long blood circulating effect and targeting ability for the delivery of antitumor drug in cancer. To investigate the characteristics of modified docetaxel-loaded nanostructured lipid carrier in vivo, a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for the determination of docetaxel in rat plasma and tumor-bearing mouse tissue samples. The biosamples were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction method with ether and separated on a C(18) column (150 mm×4.
