Autoimmune limbic encephalitis (LE) is a rare, but devastating complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). There is currently limited evidence describing the risk factors, laboratory features, and underlying mechanisms of this neurologic adverse event. We retrospectively reviewed available clinical, imaging, and laboratory data from adult patients with hematological malignancies who underwent haploidentical HSCT with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) at Chungnam National University Hospital from June 2016 to May 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • Fucoidan, a compound from brown seaweed, shows promise in treating viral infections, but the specifics of how it works are still being studied.
  • Research using RNA-Seq on bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) revealed that fucoidan enhances pathways related to viral responses and type I interferon production, particularly in response to viruses like SARS-CoV-2.
  • The study also found that fucoidan boosts markers associated with effective immune function in BMDCs, implying its role in activating antiviral responses and improving immune system readiness.

Background: To evaluate the immunomodulatory effect of Lactobacillus sakei in a mouse model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and in human immune cells.

Methods: We evaluated whether L. sakei reduced the severity of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and modulated interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-10 levels, as well as whether it affected the differentiation of CD4 T cells and regulatory B cells.
