Cisplatin (CDDP) is the primary drug used in the initial treatment of esophageal cancer (EC). However, its side effects and resistance can limit its effectiveness in clinical therapy. Curcumin (Cur)-mediated glutathione (GSH) depletion can reverse resistance, enhance the chemosensitivity of CDDP, and further improve the efficacy of platinum-containing chemotherapy in the treatment of esophageal cancer.

  • Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a deadly cancer, and the study is looking for ways to help with its treatment, especially after radiation therapy.
  • The researchers focused on a protein called KLF5 and how its levels in cells affect a process called ferroptosis, which can influence how well cells respond to treatment.
  • By doing experiments on cells and mice, they found that low levels of KLF5 make cancer cells more resistant to radiation, while a protein called NEDD4L can help make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation by affecting KLF5.

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a serious cardiovascular disease that has been linked to early-stage osteoarthritis (OA), increasing the risk of aneurysm rupture.
  • The study aimed to find biomarkers that could predict AAA rupture in patients with OA by analyzing gene expression data and employing various machine learning techniques.
  • Four significant biomarkers (PAK1, FCGR1B, LOX, and PDPN) were identified, showing high predictive ability for rupture risk and highlighting abnormal immune cell behavior in AAA cases.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism by which cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) affect the growth and immune evasion of lung cancer cells.

Methods: Initially, datasets comparing CAFs with normal fibroblasts were downloaded from the GEO dataset GSE48397. Genes with the most significant differential expression were selected and validated using clinical data.

  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition that affects blood flow and is becoming more common around the world.
  • Researchers found that a special molecule called H19 in certain cells can help improve blood flow and new blood vessel growth when used in treatment.
  • In tests with mice, adding H19 to these cells not only helped them grow and move better but also improved blood flow in their legs, showing promise for treating severe cases of PAD.

Background: Several WRKY transcription factors (TFs), including CaWRKY6, CaWRKY22, CaWRKY27, and CaWRKY40 are known to govern the resistance of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) plants to Ralstonia solanacearum infestation (RSI) and other abiotic stresses. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes remain elusive.

Objective: To investigate the regulatory mechanism of EP300 in the interaction between SLC16A1-AS1 and TCF3 to activate the Wnt pathway, thereby promoting malignant progression in lung cancer.

Methods: In lung cancer cell lines, SLC16A1-AS1 was knocked down, and the impact of this knockdown on the malignant progression of lung cancer cells was assessed through clonogenic assays, Transwell assays, and apoptosis experiments. The regulatory relationship between EP300 and SLC16A1-AS1 was investigated through bioinformatic analysis and ChIP experiments.

  • Banana sheath rot is a significant disease affecting banana crops globally, leading to plant death and economic losses, but its pathogen profile remains largely unexplored.* -
  • In a study from Guangdong and Guangxi Provinces in China, researchers isolated 12 bacterial strains associated with banana sheath rot and confirmed them as part of a specific bacterial group through 16S rRNA sequencing.* -
  • Genomic analysis revealed 22 unique virulence factors in these strains and indicated that the disease might result from an imbalance between helpful endophytes and harmful bacteria, emphasizing the need for further research on disease management.*

Lauryl alcohol, a natural compound found in plants and other organisms, is widely used to make surfactants, food, and pharmaceuticals. GZM, a plant protection preparation with lauryl alcohol as its major component is thought to establish a physical barrier on the plant surface, but its physiological functions are unknown. Here, we show that GZM improves the performance of peanut () plants in both the laboratory and the field.

This study sought to characterize the differences between the 3D-printed and decellularized tracheal grafts, providing the basis for the synthesis of the more reasonable and effective tissue-engineered trachea. We compared the biomechanical properties and biocompatibility of the 3D-printed tracheal graft and decellularized tracheal graft in vitro and evaluated the biocompatibility, immune rejection and inflammation of the two materials through in vivo implantation experiments. Compared with the decellularized tracheal graft, the 3D-printed tracheal graft was associated with obviously higher biomechanical properties.

Glyphosate is an herbicide commonly used in agriculture, and its widespread use has adversely affected the survival of nontarget organisms. Among these organisms, bees in particular are important pollinators, and declining bee populations have severely affected crop yields around the world. However, the molecular mechanism by which glyphosate harms bees remains unclear.

Background: The widespread use of glyphosate has many adverse effects on Apis cerana cerana. Due to the incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms of glyphosate toxicity, there are no available methods for mitigating the threat of glyphosate to Apis cerana cerana. Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) play an important role in resisting oxidative stress, but their mechanism of action in Apis cerana cerana remains unclear.

During colonization of soil and plants, biocontrol bacteria can effectively regulate the physiological metabolism of plants and induce disease resistance. To illustrate the influence of R31 on the quality, transcriptome and metabolome of sweet corn, field studies were conducted at a corn experimental base in Zhuhai City. The results show that, after application of R31, sweet corn was more fruitful, with a 18.

To improve the efficiency of electrolyte perturbed-chain statistical associating fluid theory-density functional theory (ePC-SAFT-DFT) calculation of the confined system, in this work, first, the Chebyshev pseudo-spectral collocation method was extended to the spherical pores. Second, it was combined with the Anderson mixing algorithm to accelerate the iterative process. The results show that the Anderson mixing algorithm can reduce the computation time significantly.

Background: Chemodynamic therapy (CDT), employing Fenton or Fenton-like catalysts to convert hydrogen peroxide (HO) into toxic hydroxyl radicals (·OH) to kill cancer cells, holds great promise in tumor therapy due to its high selectivity. However, the therapeutic effect is significantly limited by insufficient intracellular HO level in tumor cells. Fortunately, β-Lapachone (Lapa) that can exert HO-supplementing functionality under the catalysis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (phosphate) NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase-1 (NQO1) enzyme offers a new idea to solve this problem.
