This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the 2020 European Society of Gynecological Oncology/European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology/European Society of Pathology (ESGO/ESTRO/ESP) guidelines for endometrial cancer (EC). Additionally, a novel risk category incorporating clinicopathological and molecular factors was introduced. The predictive value of this new category for recurrence and survival in Korean patients with EC was assessed, and comparisons were made with the 2013 and 2016 European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) risk classifications.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cervical cancer is mainly caused by high-risk HPV types 16 and 18, which can lead to invasive cancer from precancerous lesions due to the activity of HPV genes E6 and E7.
  • - The review focuses on the p16/Ki-67 dual-staining cytology method as a more specific screening tool for HPV-positive women, highlighting its advantages over traditional methods in detecting CIN2+ lesions.
  • - While dual staining shows high sensitivity and negative predictive value, its low specificity raises concerns about false positives and unnecessary biopsies, indicating the need for updated guidelines and further research in screening practices.

Proinsulin C-peptide, a biologically active polypeptide released from pancreatic β-cells, is known to prevent hyperglycemia-induced microvascular leakage; however, the role of C-peptide in migration and invasion of cancer cells is unknown. Here, we investigated high glucose-induced migration and invasion of ovarian cancer cells and the inhibitory effects of human C-peptide on metastatic cellular responses. In SKOV3 human ovarian cancer cells, high glucose conditions activated a vicious cycle of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and transglutaminase 2 (TGase2) activation through elevation of intracellular Ca levels.

Cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide, often proves fatal and stems from precursor lesions caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection. Accurate and early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. Current screening methods, such as the Pap test, liquid-based cytology (LBC), visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), and HPV DNA testing, have limitations, requiring confirmation through colposcopy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the accuracy of high-risk HPV tests using self-collected vaginal and urine samples for identifying precancerous cervical lesions in women referred for colposcopy due to abnormal cytology.
  • A total of 314 samples were tested, showing that the sensitivity of the vaginal HPV tests was high (over 90%) for detecting cervical lesions, whereas the specificity was lower (around 33%).
  • The results indicated that vaginal samples performed similarly to clinician-collected cervical samples in detecting high-risk HPV and CIN2+, but urine samples were less effective compared to cervical samples.
