Photopatch testing in Singapore: A 10-year retrospective study.

Background: Photopatch testing represents the gold standard for the diagnosis of photoallergic contact dermatitis (PACD). We aimed to identify common photoallergens in our tertiary dermatological referral centre from 2012 to 2021, to compare this to the preceding period studied, and data from other communities.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of all 90 patients who underwent photopatch testing at the National Skin Centre, Singapore, between 2012 and 2021.

Contact sensitivity to preservatives in Singapore: frequency of sensitization to 11 common preservatives 2006-2011.

Background: Preservatives are indispensable agents used to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination of cosmetics, personal care products, domestic preparations, and industrial products.

Objective: We evaluated patch-test data at the National Skin Centre, Singapore, from 2006 to 2011 to identify the trends in preservative contact allergies.

Methods: All patients with suspected contact dermatitis were patch tested to 4 preservatives within the modified European standard series.

Trichothiodystrophy in a child with occult learning disorder.

Trichothiodystrophy (TTD) is an autosomal recessive condition characterized by brittle and sparse sulfur deficient hair. The disorder is due to a known genetic mutation in DNA nucleotide excision repair (NER) in up to 83% of cases. We describe a 13-month-old girl presenting with hair fragility and hair loss since age 3 months, and discuss the overlap between TTD and other NER diseases.

Background: Adapalene gel 0.1% is an efficacious treatment for acne vulgaris in Asians. It is generally well tolerated, but may still cause cutaneous side effects among patients with sensitive skin.

The role of topical traditional chinese medicaments as contact sensitisers in chronic venous leg ulcer patients.

Introduction: Leg ulcers are a chronic condition affecting the older population. In Singapore, the use of topical traditional Chinese medicaments (TTCM) is common amongst those older than 65 years of age. We study the role of TTCM as contact sensitisers in patients with chronic venous leg ulcers and its impact in the clinical management of these patients.

Healthcare workers in affected countries were exposed to the regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as the N95 mask, gloves, and gowns.

Delayed hypersensitivity reaction after intravenous glucagon administered for a barium enema: a case report.

Introduction: Few reports have documented allergic hypersensitivity reactions after barium gastrointestinal studies. Of these, the barium suspension, its additives or intravenous glucagon given for bowel relaxation has been implicated as possible allergens. We report a patient with delayed hypersensitivity reaction after barium enema and discuss the reasons supporting glucagon as the possible allergen.

Correlation between laser Doppler perfusion imaging and visual scoring of patch test sites in subjects with experimentally induced allergic and irritant contact reactions.

Purpose: To compare laser Doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI) measurements in experimentally induced allergic contact reactions and irritant contact reactions. The degree of correlation between visual scores and LDPI measurements was also studied.
