Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the link between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and autoimmune thyroid diseases, particularly focusing on autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) and Graves' disease (GD) using Mendelian randomization (MR).
  • Analysis from the data showed no significant causal relationship between PTSD and AIT, but indicated a potential increased risk for developing GD in individuals with PTSD.
  • The findings emphasize the need for further research to understand the complex relationship between PTSD and thyroid disorders, particularly given the evidence suggesting genetic links to increased risk for GD.

This letter discusses the publication by Feng . Iodine, selenium, and vitamin D are closely associated with thyroid hormone production in humans; however, the efficacy of selenium and vitamin D supplementation for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) remains controversial. In the retrospective study we discuss herein, the authors highlighted significant improvements in thyroid function, thyroid antibodies, blood glucose, and blood lipid in T2DM patients with HT following addition of vitamin D and selenium to their antidiabetic regimens, underscoring the value of these supplements.

The molecular mechanisms driving the onset and metastasis of prostate cancer remain poorly understood. Actin, under the control of actin-binding proteins (ABPs), plays a crucial role in shaping the cellular cytoskeleton, which in turn supports the morphological alterations in normal cells, as well as the invasive spread of tumor cells. Previous research indicates that ABPs of various types serve distinct functions, and any disruptions in their activities could predispose individuals to prostate cancer.

The predominant characteristic of autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is corpus-dominant advanced atrophy, which is mostly observed in the middle to late stages. More reports are needed on the endoscopic features of the early stage. In this report, we present two cases of early-stage AIG in which endoscopic examinations showed no atrophy of the gastric mucosa but displayed a transition of collecting venules from a regular to an irregular arrangement.

  • This study investigates the causal link between hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) using a method called Mendelian randomization.
  • Researchers analyzed genetic data on chronic hepatitis B, liver conditions, and T2D from large databases.
  • The findings suggest that chronic hepatitis B may reduce the risk of developing T2D, while liver cirrhosis and fibrosis increase that risk, potentially changing the relationship based on the severity of the liver disease.

  • - This study aims to explore the causal relationship between vitamin D levels and autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD) using a method called Mendelian randomization (MR), which analyzes genetic data to draw conclusions.
  • - The researchers found that higher levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D were linked to a lower risk of autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT), but not significantly related to autoimmune hyperthyroidism (AIH) or Graves disease (GD).
  • - The results indicate that increasing vitamin D levels may help reduce the risk of AIT, suggesting potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation for prevention and treatment of this specific autoimmune condition.
