Article Synopsis
  • Fermented liquid feed (FLF), specifically wheat-based fermented liquid feed (WFLF), enhances nutrient absorption and benefits gut health in grower-finisher pigs, although research on its effects is limited.
  • In a study involving 80 weaned pigs, those fed WFLF showed improved growth metrics, such as higher daily feed intake and weight gain, compared to those on a conventional dry feed diet (CON).
  • WFLF also positively affected intestinal morphology and function, increasing villus height and enhancing microbial diversity, which may contribute to better overall health and digestion in the pigs.

Objectives: To investigate the possible roles of Interleukin 17A (IL-17A) and IL-17A neutralizing antibodies (IL-17Ab) in glaucoma and the potential mechanisms.

Methods: The two glaucoma animal models, chronic ocular hypertension (COH) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced retinal ganglion cell (RGC) damage, were established and treated with intravitreal injection of IL-17A or IL-17Ab. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured by a rebound tonometer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of nanosilica used in cigarette filters on the lung health of factory workers and mouse models.
  • Results show that workers exposed to cigarette filter silica exhibit significantly higher abnormal lung function rates compared to those in different roles at the factory.
  • Animal tests indicate that cigarette filter silica leads to more severe lung inflammation and impairment over time than crystalline silica, highlighting the need for better safety measures for workers handling these materials.

Monascus spp. can produce a variety of beneficial metabolites widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries. However, some Monascus species contain the complete gene cluster responsible for citrinin biosynthesis, which raises our concerns about the safety of their fermented products.

Aims: In this study, Mrhst4, encoding a member of NAD+-dependent histone deacetylase (HDAC), was deleted to evaluate its regulation on the production of Monascus azaphilone pigments (MonAzPs) and mycotoxin, as well as the developmental process in Monascusruber.

Methods And Results: Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation was applied in this study to generate the Mrhst4 null strain. Mrhst4-deleted strain did not display obvious differences in the sexual and asexual reproduction, colonial morphology, and micro-morphology.
