The aim of the study was to establish an in vitro model of Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, and to investigate bacterial biofilm formation and its structure using the combined approach of confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria (stain RP62A) were incubated with PVC pieces in Tris buffered saline to form biofilms. Biofilm formation was examined at 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 48 h.

Background And Objective: Xuanwei is an area of the highest incidence and mortality with lung cancer in China. The aim of this study is to determine serum selenium concentrations in lung cancer patients from Xuanwei as well as selenium levels of cancerous tissues, cancer-adjacent pulmonary tissues, and normal pulmonary lung tissues from lung cancer patients, and the relationship between selenium and the high incidence of lung cancer in Xuanwei.

Methods: One hundred and twenty female adults from Xuanwei were enrolled in the study (60 lung cancer patients and 60 with non-tumor and non-respiratory diseases, respectively) and blood samples were collected.

Background: The therapeutic efficacy of late lung-cancer was very poor, and cytokine-induced killer cells (CIK) were paid more attention to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study is to get insight into the role of bronchial arterial infusion bronchial arterial infusion (BAI) plus CIK about NSCLC by comparing therapeutic efficacy among BAI, traditional vein chemotherapy and BAI plus CIK, for late NSCLC.

Methods: A total of 120 patients were enrolled in this study, dividing randomly into three groups: bronchial arterial infusion (BAI), traditional vein chemotherapy and BAI plus CIK.

Background: The interaction of cell and medical biomaterial is one of the significant factors to affect clinical application of medical biomaterial. This research is to investigate three of suture lines how to affect the proliferation and cell cycle of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549.

Methods: Three of suture lines are respectively cultivated with Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549, after of 72 hours, to detect absorptance of each groups by MTT method in order to reflect the proliferation of Lung Adenocarcinoma cell A549 and to detect percentage of G1 period cell and S period cell of each of groups by flow cytometry.

Objective: To study the influence of brominated furanones on the biofilm formation of Escherichia coli on the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, and to provide new ideas for the research of surface modification of materials and clinical treatment of biomaterial centered infection.

Methods: Three brominated furanones with representative chemical structure were chosen and coated on the surface modification of PVC materials, respectively [furanone 1: 3, 4-dibromo-5-hydroxy-furanone; furanone 2: 4-bromo-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(methylamino)-furanone; furanone 3: 3, 4-dibromo-5, 5-bis (4-methylphenyl)-2 (5H)-furanone]. All the modificated PVC materials and Escherichia coli were co-cultivated.

Background And Objective: The coal-fired pollution in Xuanwei area has been considered to be local main reason for high incidence of female lung cancer. The aim of this study is to explore the expression of PAH-DNA adducts in lung tissues of Xuanwei female lung cancer patients and to explore the relationship between the large number of coal-fired pollution PAHs materials and the high incidence of Xuanwei female lung cancer.

Methods: We totally collected each 20 cases of Xuanwei female lung cancer patients, Xuanwei male lung cancer patients, Non-Xuanwei female lung cancer patients and collect each 10 cases of Xuanwei, Non-Xuanwei female patients with benign lung lesions.

Objective: To analyze the contents and distribution of 33 elements in the samples of lung cancer tissues, paracancerous lung tissues and benign lung tissues of patients with lung cancer.

Methods: 14 samples of lung cancer tissue, paracancerous lung tissue and benign lung tissue were collected from the patients with lung cancer in the high lung cancer rate area of our country. The samples were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry after microwave digestion.

Objective: To study the molecular mechanism of enalapril on rat chronic bronchopneumonia model with proteomics method.

Methods: Enalapril treatment applied to the recovery of chronic bronchopneumonia in rats, after enalapril administration, two-dimensional electrophoresis and mass spectrometry were performed to analyze the difference of the peptide finger print map and amino acid sequence of rat lung tissues in acrolein inhalation group and enalapril treatment group.

Results: Three differential protein spots from average 545 protein spots were found in lung tissues of two groups.

A method for determining 33 elements in lung tissues of patients with lung cancer was developed by using vacuum freeze-drying microwave digestion-ICP-MS. The lung tissue samples were treated by vacuum freeze-drying equipment. After microwave digestion in HNO3-H2O2 solution system, the samples were diluted with the method of constant volume.

Background: As the most frequent bone metastasis, spinal metastases cause severe pain and damage to vertebral bodies such as spinal osteolytic destruction and compression fractures. To avoid the trauma and complications of open surgery, a minimally invasive procedure, percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP), has recently been developed to treat metastatic spinal tumors.

Purpose: To analyze the treatment outcomes of metastatic spinal tumors by percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) alone or PVP combined with interstitial implantation of 125I seeds.

This study sought to assess the effect of SspA on the formation of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm extending over the surfaces of Cardiovascular Biomaterial Dacron. SspA was extracted from the surface of staphylococcus aureus biofilm, purified, and then used to influence the adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus and the formation of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm on Dacron biomaterial surfaces. The formation of the Staphylococcus aureus biofilm on cardiovascular biomaterial Dacron surfaces under gradient SspA concentrations was evaluated by confocal laser microscopy.

Background: Lung cancer has become one of the most dangerous malignant tumor in the world nowadays, whose pathogenesis is complex involving multi-genes and multi-elements. In this study, we try to explore the values of serum SYK and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in lymph node metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma.

Methods: Serum SYK and VEGF were examined in 160 lung adenocarcinoma patients with various metastasis lesions and 40 healthy volunteers by ELISA.

Background: The Pearl River Origin area, Qujing District of Yunnan Province, has one of the highest female lung cancer mortality rates in China. Smoking was excluded as a cause of the lung cancer excess because almost all women were non-smokers. Crystalline silica embedded in the soot emissions from coal combustion was found to be associated with the lung cancer risk in a geographical correlation study.

We hypothesized that the genomic response to folate deficiency might be different between breast cancer cases and healthy subjects. To test this hypothesis, we performed a comprehensive study on the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of in vitro folic acid (FA) deficiency on primary human lymphocytes from 19 breast cancer patients and 20 age-matched healthy females from Yunnan, China using the cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay. Lymphocytes from the volunteers were cultured in RPMI1640 medium containing 30, 120 or 240 nM FA for 9 days.

Background & Objective: Up-regulation of epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) and down-regulation of E-cadherin are correlated with genesis, progression, invasion, and metastasis of tumor; however, their expressions, especially their association,in esophageal carcinoma have seldom been reported. This study was to detect expressions of EGFR and E-cadherin in esophageal carcinoma, and to analyze their relationship.

Methods: Expressions of EGFR and E-cadherin in 50 specimens of esophageal squamous carcinoma and 8 specimens of esophageal adenocarcinoma were detected by immunohistochemistry.
